A New Generation Car for Honda City

Honda City Used a new headlights with DRL, LED taillights, foldable ORVMs with turn blinker, sunroof, shark-fin antenna, new alloy wheels and several other styling elements reflect the premium class of the car. With a long wheelbase, Honda City offers great cabin space for the driver and passengers. The sedan comes integrated with eight-speaker stereo system with support for Aux-in and Bluetooth support. The 17.7 cm screen integrates visual Navigation system along with park assist system that displays objects while reversing. A climate control unit for passengers helps keep cabin temperature in check. There are power outlets in the front and rear for gadgets. An instrument cluster with the ‘Econ’ setting, a start-stop button, and several other advanced features find place in the City.

The City is efficient and the diesel variant promises an impressive mileage figure of 26 kmpl(ARAI certified). The sedan shares both its diesel engines with the compact sedan – Amaze and the Hatchback Jazz. The 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine delivers a peak power output of 100PS and a torque of 200Nm. This power unit is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox only.

The City petrol comes powered with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine, which can be bought either with a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT. It offers a maximum power of 119PS with 146 Nm of torque. On the fuel efficiency front, the City petrol leads its class and offers an impressive 17.4 kmpl and 18 kmpl of mileage with manual and automatic transmission, respectively. In terms of drivability, handling and safety, the Honda City has an upper hand as compared to its rivals. With low maintenance cost and cheaper spare parts, the City proves to be a worthy, economical deal. The car’s available in five trims(S, SV, V, VX and ZX), and competes in the segment along with cars like Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento etc.

Honda cars are recognized for their powerful engines and fuel efficiency, and the Honda City is not an exception. Claimed to be among the most fuel efficient car of India, the all-new City diesel offers an outstanding mileage of 25 kmpl. The City diesel is offered with a six-speed manual transmission option. On the other side, the sedan petrol variant comes mated either with a five speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic gearbox. The CVT automatic gearbox is 10 percent lighter, which has made it more fuel efficient than the manual version. The City petrol with MT delivers 17.4 kmpl, while with CVT, it returns 18 kmpl.

The City feels smooth and sturdy even on uneven roads. Honda is more focussed on the overall performance and fuel efficiency, and has introduced the Honda City as an ideal luxury sedan. Tuned with the ECU and a six-speed transmission, the City diesel is a great vehicle to drive. The refinement levels are better than before. Despite sharing its diesel engine with Amaze, the City diesel isn’t that noisy. The clutch and gearbox are smooth. The turbo lag is negligible. The engine feels rev-happy upto 4100 rpm, but above this mark, it becomes more audible and harsh. The zigzag pattern and low tension oil seals for piston coating reduce the engine friction and improve the NVH level. The throttle response is prompt and power delivery is linear.

With a purpose to enhance the engine economy, Honda has boosted the diesel engine with double needle plug and valve timing. Along with this, the low viscosity oil, a high swirl port and an offset crankshaft add more to its performance. The aluminium power unit, and light body built and parts contribute to the overall ride quality and handling of the car. The robust front McPherson struts and rear H-shaped torsion beam suspension system not only improve the sedan’s rigidity by 24 percent, but also absorbs the jerks and bumps very well. The sedan is insulated with high-quality sound insulation material to bring a pleasing driving experience. The turning radius is also well controlled.

Known for its powerful and fuel efficient engines, Honda City with the diesel motor is the most fuel efficient one. The case is no different with the petrol models; the Petrol mill too offers a class-leading fuel economy. The City diesel with the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine returns an impressive mileage of 25 kmpl, along with producing a maximum power output of 100PS with 200 Nm of peak torque. It’s the same engine that powers Amaze. This power unit is boosted with the VGT(Variable Geometry Turbo) technology. The City petrol derives its power from the 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine, which comes mated with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission.

The CVT automatic transmission is 10 percent lighter than the conventional CVTs. Coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission, it delivers an impressive figure of 17.4 kmpl, while with the automatic transmission, promises an even better mileage figure of 18 kmpl. This power train delivers a peak power output of 117 bhp with 146 Nm of torque. The City diesel is competent to sprint to 100 kmph from standing still in 12.5 seconds, while the City petrol can achieve 0-100 kmph just in 10 seconds with a top speed of 195 kmph.

The next-generation Honda City directly competes with Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Vento, Rapid etc. The Honda City looks younger, outgoing and most stylish of the lot. The Honda’s design language addresses to young generation and people who like to live with high-class sophistication, and makes it an obvious choice. With added features like the DRL and LED taillights etc., the car now looks great as ever and is now at par with the rest in that department if not better.

All cars in this segment offer a good cabin space with premium level of ease and comfort. Honda City goes a step ahead and offers a sunroof which no other car offers in this segment. With a numbers of bells and whistles, the City offers high level comfort. The plastic quality, features list and the build of City is relatively more impressive than those of Ciaz or even the Verna.

The Verna comes powered with a 1.6-litre VGT diesel engine that produces a decent power and torque outputs. The car is most powerful in the segment, however, there’s significant turbo lag which is quite noticeable. The City diesel is claimed to be the most fuel efficient car of the country, offering an impressive mileage figure of 25 kmpl. The Honda CVT automatic transmission is lighter and more efficient than the standard CVTs. The Honda City impresses with its power and torque outputs. The City behaves well at high speeds, even on rough surfaces. The overall handling and driving dynamics of City are just exceptional in this segment. Undoubtedly, Honda City has an upper hand when it comes to engine power and overall performance.

Since pricing is considered to be one of the most important aspects while buying a car, Honda has kept the City’s pricing spot-on. However, Hyundai also doesn’t disappoint its buyers in this department. Therefore, in terms of pricing, both the cars are neck and neck.
