Before buying the Vtec I had test driven almost every C segment car in India. The Lancer seemed to be a very good deal until I sat in a Honda 1.5. The moment I sat in I knew that this was a car built for me. After the test drive I had made up my mind to buy this car, thats when I learnt that there was another variant of the city. That would be the moment id be introduced to a car which ive learnt to love and respect through these few months. The Vtec is not just a car to me, its more like a friend I love hanging out with. We go for long drives hoping to come across some competition. I rarely race the engine above 5500 rpm, thats all it takes to put the others cars into the weeds. The only car that might get me a wee bit worried would be the Ford Mondeo, but then again when it finally came to racing with the big guy, the Vtec didnt disappoint me. This by all means is Indias best sports car till date. The Mercs might be powerful but powerful doesnt always mean better. Having called it a sports car, the Vtec also has a soft side to its personality, keep it below 2500 rpm and it behaves like a small car, anything above 3000rpm can get pretty dirty, 5000+...youre in a different world. The other thing about the Vtec is that with all that power, it doesnt sacrifice fuel efficiency. My car gives me between 10 - 12 kmpl in the city and between 17 - 21 on the highway. Sounds impossible??? Welcome to the world of Honda. Comfort level is very good compared to the other C segmenters. Tyres not good enough to handle the kind of torture this monster has to offer. On the whole , this car is THE perfect package for the Schumacher sleeping inside you. Test drive this car today, take it to its limit and dont forget to wear your seat belt. And Oh!!! If you see a Lancer in your rear view mirror...just let him pass....have pity on him. PS: I know the Vtec will get out classed in a few years but it will always be remembered as the car that got our Adrenaline pumping and hearts thumping. The car that gave us a new reason to drive.
Hats off to you Honda!!!!
