I guess I am well qualified to write a review after clocking more than 12, 000 kms on this machine now. This was the first bike I owned and bought it in my salary so it was a big thing for me! Since then Honda Unicorn has been my best friend, much more faithful than my girlfriend!
Whts great?
Kickass riding feel:The engine is so smooth that you wont feel the bike is moving sometimes in fifth gear! And it gives you a beautiful sound(not "noise" like others) when you increase the throttle which no other bike has been able to achieve so far. This is for those who are realistic and are not flattered by bikes which wake up the neighbourhood! Not once you will get irritated of the bike, no matter how far you go on it, because you feel like you are cruising along.
The braking: is awesome, you can really go close to an object and trust your disk breaks to do the job for you, though your pillion will look concerned until it sees it halt!
Mono suspension: You are anyday better off with a mono suspension system. It really stands the test of the bumps and potholes on the way
Whats not so great:
Road grip(blame the tyres): The MRF tyres that come along with this bike are low quality, at least I feel, as they are very slippery on the road. I dont know if thats changed with the new mag wheel edition. Mine is the model before that.
Whats okay?
The bike will return 40 if you ride it harshly and 45 if you are kind to it.
Why Unicorn?
If you want to buy a bike you will fall in love it, if you can look beyond mere flashy looks, if you want to feel good while riding, as if you were flying, if you wanna cruise past other 150 cc bikes(exclude r15) with relative ease without being noticed, this is the bike for you! This is the best 150 cc bike money can buy(hands down!) Go grab it, you will cherish it for years to come. You beauty!
Gear changing tips:
For best results do not ride it like you would ride an RX.
First gear:initial few metres
Second gear:upto 20
Third gear:upto 30
Fourth gear:upto 40
Fifth gear:40 and beyond.
Top speed: I have touched 120 kms on the highway with good stability!
Servicng:Service the bike once every 2000 kms beyond the free services period.
Recommended fuel: Shell
Recommended Oil: Shell 4 stroke
Enhancement:Try attaching the Skoda twintone (car) horn to your bike. I loved it after fitting it. Makes your presence felt in chock-a-block traffic!(Only if it is your cup of tea!) I also have a "fantasy horse" silver sticker on its rear grab!:)
