Get mileage from Ur CBZ

Hi guys,

First of all forgive me for listing my review under Unicorn’s heading becoz I already have a review for CBZ. I would like all the CBZ owners to get better mileage from Ur bike. I own a CBZ (drum brake), 2000 model.

My bike used to give me 39.5kmpl, the best mileage in the city traffic of Hyderabad, which is very crowded, and with rough driving I used to get 33 kmpl, and with extreme rough use, it used to give me 26kmpl, and on the highway I got a maximum of 53kmpl. I used to tell the mechanics that my bike aint giving me mileage. They used to tell me that I should service and that they would clean the carburattor. I told em to just adjust the air-fuel screw to a good value so that it would give me a good mileage. They told me that there is a setting inside the carburattor and that would give me the mileage. I tried this several times but U C, ----no mileage.

So, I thought I should do something myself. One of cousin came from Pune, he is a mechanic and is working in HM showroom, for Mitsubishi Lancer. First of all he inspected my bike. He took a look at the carburattor and firstly he disconnected the TPFC (Accelerator pump). After this my bike started giving giving me 5kmpl more mileage with almost the same pickup. Beleive me, there was just a slight reduction in the pickup, and the accelarator grip became so soft and smooth. It was giving me 44kmpl in traffic with good driving in th city against 39.5kmpl. And there was no change in topspeed of the bike.

Further I thought to increase more mileage. The original jet of my bike is 102 from the company, I put a jet numbered 95 but my bike was not running properly. It couldnt cross 65km/h and all the cheap guys were overtaking me. With that jet I got 47.8kmpl very easily but no acceleration and topspeed. Then I tried the jet number 98. I got these jets for Rupees 10 only (Each jet). I opened the carburattor my self and cleaned and replaced the jet. My bike is working absolutely fine and I am getting 47kmpl in traffic (My driving is variable, some times fast and some times slow). The accelertion is good (U can beat the Pulsar 150 easily). I have even raced with a Pulsar 150 DTS-i and even that cannot beat th CBZ (with the small jet 98 and the TPFC disconnected although that is 13.1 bhp and the CBZ being 12.6 bhp (and old CBZ 12.8 bhp as the company used to claim in th news papers.)) My bike clocks good speed just as it did before and about the top speed I did not check as the traffic is very dangerous and my bike is the drum version and does not stop quickly. But I think it should be just -5km/h of the original top speed The five gears of the CBZ are good but some times I feel they are of no use. It is a short stroke gear box. When ever I shift from 3rd gear to 4th gear, It feels as if I have not changed the gear and when I read the tacho-meter, it shows a drop of only 1000 rpm. 4th to 5th gear is fine. But U C, even with 5 gears, this bike does not have a good top speed, i.e. only 113 or 117km/h (as different magazines specify different values. I could have tested my self but I am a scary cat and one more fact is that I never got a good chance becoz some one or the other comes in the way.......... as usual).

I heard the RX-100 clocks 120 km/h and can beat CBZ - but I dont know the reality. If some one knows, please leave a comment. Some people say the fiero, pulsar150 (not 180) can beat the CBZ easily, but that is not true becouse the CBZ is a deadly bike and it can beat Pulsar150, Fiero and F2/Fx any time, any where.

But the problem is that this bike gets very noisy at high rpm’s which is the only disadvantage, and mileage not being such a big disadvantage after U alter Ur bike, but pick up will go down a bit. And ya I forgot one thing, the optimum Air/Fuel screw setting is 2 complete revolutions (According to me becouse I have tried all the settings, with less settings I was getting the same mileage but the bike was giving starting problems and was getting off).

I hope U will find it useful. I had spent quite some money in R & D and giving U guys this information for free. One more thing is that over here, the CBZ costs 63, 500 (with disk standard) and buttonstart CBZ for 67, 500. So, when U choose U should choose it wisely. The button start of CBZ costs 5, 000 rupees where as that of the Unicorn costs just 3, 000. Unicorn costs 56, 500 without BS and CBZ costs 63, 500 and Unicorn is technologically more advanced than CBZ. So, always make a wise decision.

CBZ does not have the following features-

  • AMI - Advance Microprocessor Ignition

  • CV-Carburattor for better mileage as there is a lot of fuel being wasted with the TPFC.

  • Long stroke gearbox (I heard a well tuned CBZ clocks 115km/h and the new Fazer with long stroke gearbox manages 104 km/h, so a 125cc, 4 geared bike and 157cc, 5 geared bike donot have much difference in their top speed.)

  • Good sporty meters (the old black one looks dull (I’m bored of it), a white colored one would be nice like the one on Passion plus.)

  • Opto-prismic lights.

  • Low end torque (with low end torque, U can drive at low speeds with out gear changes.)

  • The bike is so expensive and does not even have a halogen bulb as standard as we get with Splendor+, Passion+, FieroF2, Unicorn, Pulsar, ............ .

-Inspite of being the most expensive among its class, the engine is noisy and a bit harsh (It is good, no doubt, but not as silent and refined as the Unicorn or even the Pulsar. So, what for are they charging so much money.)

Many of U might like the CBZ, even I like it but it is not value for money.

I would recommend using Add-On, as the engine revs very smoothly and those harsh vibrations feel smooth. I wonder after using Add-On, how might the Unicorn ride???
