Me and my newly wed wife reach Chennai Rly station around 6 in the morning and it took us about 40 mins to find the hotel taxi driver. Reason: Taxi driver doesnt know english and we dont know Tamil. Dude if you claim to be a 5 star hotel then atleast have literate drivers.
Next when we reach the hotel we meet another of the hotels illiterate staff. The hotel Manager. He first says that no rooms are available and then when we decide to check in later he says he will charge a full day rate for additional few hours. Ridiculous! Then finally after some negotiation he settles for a half day rate as if he is doing a big favor. Dude why lie in the first place that you dont have any rooms and not be upfront about it. And atleast learn some decent english.
They bellboy claimed the breakfast is complimentary but later when I called the front desk they said its not.
The place is atmost a 3 star unless Chennai seriously doesnt know the difference between 3 star and 5 star. The rooms were small but ok and the furnishings not too modern.
The bar/club/disc was infested with local goons and I would not go there with my gf/wife. This was during a weekday, Dunno if the scene is different on a weekend.
Overall, much better to stay in a true 5 star like Taj and not a local run mom and pop hotel that doesnt even have a decent english speaking manager.
