" Hotel Amrut " is the place, the locals will recommend if you are in mood for seafood When in small coastal town of Karwar,
though I was born and brought up in Karwar, I havent bothered to dig into the history of this joint- like when and how it began...etc..etc. I just know , it is run by a family of Goldsmith Community ( A Community Better known for its fine jewellwey making skills rather than Culinary and Restaurent Running abilities). and that it has been there , as far as I can remember.
Karwar though famous all over for its characteristic coastal cuisine, lacks good restaurants that specialize in seafood .......... Hotel Amrut thrives on this deficiency and " No Competition " Environment.
.Ironically it is famous among local populace for a dish that cannot really be called " Authentic Karwari" "the Biryani". Both Chicken and Mutton variants are served , the characteristic flavor may be mainly because its pre- prepared once or twice in a day unlike the ones made to order and served in Shetty restaurants of Mumbai. Head there early as it gets out of stock really fast especially on sundays.
On the seafood front, the fish curry rice is value for money- with the curry being as native and authentic as it could get. If you wish to try something non routine , ask for the catch of the day, also the " bangda masala fry "is good , Tisrya sukka( clams) Prawn, calamari(squid) dishes are all tasty because the ingredients are procured fresh and the owner himself can be seen bargaining with the fisher woman for the ingredients(seafood) each morning at the closeby Fish market
Other dishes worth a try are " Butter Chicken", "Chicken 65",
Expect a minimal decor and ambience, noisy crowd , (as it has a bar attached). Overall , Worth a visit , if you are in Karwar. A few celebreties who have visited Karwar seem to agree, and you have a small list of whos who visited, at the entrance- the most recent being Sanjay dutt and his n-th wife Manyata
