Just back from a 2 day stay in the hotel, and I must say that its Location could be its only USP. Literally a stone’s throw distance away from the beautiful Rose Garden, and walking distance away from the Commercial Road of Ooty(which is where most nice shops are:-) ), the hotel is quite well placed, even if it’s up a narrow lane, which frequently gets blocked by huge buses belonging to a travel agency just opposite to the hotel.
However, the hotel as such has almost nothing to its credit, you get a feeling that it might have been good looking when it was built, but is now quite unkempt and shabby, maybe because it couldnt keep up with the competition, or were the owners not even interested?
General Service is pathetic, we reached the hotel at around 12:30 p.m, only to learn that you get hot water in the hotel only till 11 in the morning, and then again between 7-10 p.m in the evening(though we didnt get that either, and were told the geiser was under repair!). They agreed to arrange for 1 bucket of hot water for our parents, but that too never arrived!:-)
As for the Food, the restaurant looked like it hadn’t been used for years, but the room service was okay, and I’ve had worse food elsewhere, so wouldnt really complain about that.
However, when we tried to order for snacks in the evening, they simply refused to make what we wanted, sticking to the point that sandwich was what was ready, and sandwich was what we’d get.:-)
The Rooms were moderately clean, but quite "worn-out" looking.and the worst part was the lighting in the corridor, I could not really figure out why they insisted on giving the place a kind of "haunted" look by lighting only 2 or 3 lamps in the entire corridor!
Overall, it was quite an ordinary place, not really worth the 950/- per room(that’s for a standard double, and the superior rooms(~1600/-) were nothing too different, apart from an extra mirror fitted on the wall!)
Advice to fellow travellers: Give it a miss if you have other options, however if you too are a late planner and have nowhere else to go(this is one place you’re sure to get an acco) you now know what to expect!:-)
