I and my wife just came back from Ooty this morning (20th July 2009) and I wanted to write this review for everybody’s benefit. We stayed in Hotel Lake View for 4 days and booked Deluxe Cottage (which is the cheapest available) through MakeMyTrip.com online. When we showed the printout at the hotel reception, it just took 2 minutes for them to verify and allot the room to us.
The rooms are sort of individual cottages. It includes one bedroom, hall, furniture, double cot. Geycer was in working condition. Whenever we ordered morning coffee, they served within 10 minutes. One of the days, there was a power cut and when we called the room service, they offered hot water in a bucket within 20 minutes. The restaurant also has a good ambience and a courteous service. The items were of very good taste and the service was prompt.
They took max 20 to 25 minutes for fulfilling any order. The items available in the menu for Vegetarians is limited but it was ok to manage. They also arranged local sightseeing @ Rs.175 per person for Ooty & Coonnoor. The cab pickup/drop took more time than what was printed in the brochure but it was primarily due to delays caused by other visitors. For any enquiry, the hotel staff replied patiently. As the hotel is little away from the town, we had to pay atleast 50-80 rupees for auto but we had a peaceful atmosphere since the hotel was away from the traffic/crowd. The check-out process was also a breeze - within 10 minutes, we checked out. Few minor disappointments - there was no lake view available from any room although hotel is named as Lake View. Hot water pipe in the bathroom was slightly leaking. They charge extra for heaters.
There is no brochure available on the services offered by hotel. It is slightly away from the town. There was no internet connection. The hotel staff said Yatra.com is not paying them properly so they want visitors to pay separately to them in case they booked through this site. But, these are minor ones and we can live with it as there are alternatives. Overall, our experience was great and we strongly recommend this hotel for you, if you intend to stay in a decent hotel and have a pleasant experience.
