I too dont have very good memories of this restaurant, though I did not face the people-attitude problems.
We went there as a group of friends (about ten of us) and ordered the typical Malvani food. We were provided for on the first floor. What I didnt like about the place was that we had to squat on dari, around a large rectangular table which was about a foot or so in height. They said, this is how it is for larger groups. I have a problem in my knee due to a past accident, and it was difficult for me to remain squatted, with crossed legs, for more than 15 - 20 minutes.
The food was typical Malvani, but the presentation was not to my taste. They didnt provide good styles dishes etc. It looked more like a gharelu affair. Not recommended for family visits, typically once in a month outings. Ths may be ok-dokey for regular visitors (bachelors etc.) but certainly not for relaxing family type dinners.
Food-wise, it was typical Malvani. Chicken curry had two small bony pieces of chicken. Nothing to rave about ... I dont know why one of my Malvani friends recommended this place to me.
The waiters also looked typical from Konkan area, with no polish. A trfle rustic - khanavaleet la porya- types .. if you know Marathi a bit, you will understand what I mean.
The positive: Sol Curry was superb. I think I had three-four glass full.
