I stayed with my family( wife and 2 kids) in Hotel Ooty Gate from 27th till 31st May 2009. We had a warm welcome from the reception. Rooms were good. There was 24 hours hot water through Gas geyser though it was not very effective. Room was clean and tidy. Bed was comfortable. There was a TV and sitting arrangement also. Cupboards were enough to keep clothes etc. Toilet and cum bathroom was OK. They kept soap and shampoo on first day only! Nobody bothered to change it later.
Room service was poor. We had to remind them thrice to clean our room and change towels on the first day. After serving tea, nobody turned up to clean the table.
Person sitting at travel desk was not a Hotel guy so he had his commission in travel arrangements. Obviously we avoided him after initial experience.
Rent for a standard deluxe double room was Rs. 1400+ taxes per night and 12 noon check in /check out. Breakfast was complementary and what would you expect in a complementary breakfast? Same menu repeated for 2 days. But food quality was definitely not bad.
Hotel is on Highway so not a good choice for silence lovers but nice for families with kids. There is a small children’s park. Hotel Trident Haveli attached to the hotelserves good veg food but service is poor and you have to book in advance on phone.
One distinct advantage is its closeness to the market and another is clean rooms. It is value for money hotel and good in the budget hotels range.
Worth visiting if you are with a family. Go to Charing cross square to make travel arrangements on your own. For toy train, book tickes in advance when you are planning your journey. Do not depend on travel desk. Take food in charing cross square and not in hotel. rtident is also another option.
