Now, I had heard tons on sarvan bhavan, that its got branches all over and that it operates out of Dubai and that the food is simply groovy...well I finally tried it and I must say, it sucks. I was terribly disappointed. I was with my partner and its just not possible that two of us were wrong at the same time. We had ordered dahi wada to beat the summer heat and a butter masala dosa and utthapam....and as we waited for the sarvan bhavan magic to sweep us of our feet... bingo...the dhai wada came with curd thinner than running water in our taps. There was simply no flavour....the magic flavour was missing. I could not believe my eyes when I saw it and then when we tasted it, it tasted awful. Since I was terribly hungry I ate that stuff and then complained to the service guy telling him that the dish was awful and asked him whether they had used a week-old curd....The guy did not even acknowledge my complaint and to make me sound like an iniot, he went over to the next table to take an order. No apology and I dont-care-a-damn look on his face said it all.
The butter masal dosa and uttapam was no great either. It was good but I have eaten better stuff at an ordinary sagar ratna restaurant in vasant kunj. Its far better and the service too is far better. The servings of coconut chutney and sambhar were equally terrible at sarvan. Maybe a couple of table spoons each and it got over! I think sagar ratna servings are far more and much better. We topped it up finally with the typical south Indian coffee and this too tasted as if I had it all along. Where was the sarvan bhavan magic that everybody was talking about? Of course the best part of it all was that the bill was picked up by my brother in law who had actually recommended the place to us. Thank God for that or else I would have felt miserable eating not so great food from Sarvan and also paying for it. Its a never again for me at sarvan bhavan. Ill try some other place at CP when I go out to dine.
