Hotmail became craze when it started as the free email service provider that so many people started registering and using this 2mb free email service provider.
During those days, people use to think that only users who have registered with the ISP will get and email id. But due to Net address and Hotmail, things started changing. My first email on the net was Net address and then due to better design of hotmail, I moved to hotmail.com. But when I look back it now, I still wonder how did I register myself but their was very little option left. Because netaddress had a very bad design and was not at all user friendly
No doubt transformation from hotmail to my latest visto was really difficult because most of my contacts knew about hotmail and still, my old resumes which I had uploaded has hotmail and never got time to update my resume. But one thing is sure, hotmail after being taken over by Microsoft sucks big time with all the cons only, I don’t find any advantage with Hotmail, only its useful for MSN messenger apart from that, it sucks big time.
Features of Hotmail are nothing to go ga.. ga about. It gives one of the less email spaces on the net just 2mb. Imagine, if I had used my hotmail id to use at MS for all the alerts, every day I would have to keep deleting my emails because there is hardly any space. Now a days 2mb is hardly anything. When there are email service provider like visto providing me 15mb email space and folder to store my important files and additional 25 mb , If I make my friends register for this service. Imagine a mind-blowing 40mb of email space and no pains to delete my emails at least for another 2mths. Even yahoo has increased its speed to 6mb but hotmail wants to stick to 2mb space.
MSN was one of my clients when I was working for a Contact Centre and used to ask these guys why don’t they increase the space, their answer was instance we don’t handle hotmail. Microsoft is such a mammoth company that one person doesn’t know what the other is doing because there are so much space between one department to the other that there will be some 10 hidden people between 2 person. It runs somewhat like our very own government office (But in a professional manner). If you want a certain issues to be solved, it will go through various chains of department and by the time it reaches you, you will loose interest in that matter.
MSN & Hotmail customer service is outsourced in India and now it has become faster. It was believed that around 2.5million calls per month Microsoft on a whole use to get , I am talking about only voice calls, emails was separate, imagine were your email would be but not know. A Contact Centre in India handles Hotmail customer service and the replies are a bit quicker than expected but what’s the use of customer service when the service itself sucks big time.
SPAMMAIL
This is now what hotmail is famous for. It’s become the spammer’s paradise. In a day, . At least 10 spam emails are fixed. I don’t know how come these porn sites get the email and they keep on pouncing emails. E-mail’s like this “ Watch Jennifer Lopez nude and many more celebrities” . Absolutely disgusting!!!
When I was studying these concepts of Spam emails whether it’s a advertising email or porn email. The whole concept behind this is called Viral Marketing wherein they use ECRM software which on a bulk will send emails. For eg. If there is an id by the name of mehta@hotmail.com, what it will do is automatically generate further emails like mehta1@hotmail.com, mehta2@hotmail.com…and so on. So, if somewhere your email comes in between you get an email. You will think it is personalised and sent to you but not, they use software, which automatically takes some thing based on certain fields. It works on the similar format like mail merge but a bit more advanced.
The biggest disadvantage of Hotmail is that most of the data is readily sometimes accessible and the security level is very low. Even though they say, its one of the most secured email. If you want really security than go in for Hushmail.com. Nothing can be more secure than that, what it does is encrypts your email and sends it to the user so your data is as secured as possible.
Finally, now what Microsoft is trying to do is promote their new email service from MSN and they will slowly fade out the Hotmail. But lets hope for the best. Anyways for now don’t even think of keeping your emails on the Lord of Spam emails Hotmail. Its sucks in the entire angle whether the space or the security.
“Email being a important source of communication, be wise and register with someone whom you can think on long term where in you can’t keep on changing. Its like the mobile phone, once you have got orange, inspite of being a poor service provider you can’t change it as most of your important contacts know only this number.
