Hottest Summer Night by Rony Dasgupta

Debutant author Rony Dasgupta’s first book ‘Hottest Summer Night’ deals with human sentiment with unexpected turns and emotional twist.

The story comes in form of a reality check too as many of us are emotionally exposed and vulnerable at the era of technological advancement. Social Network, or as some sarcastically say (un)social network, brings back lots of old connection with baggage of memory, sometime its good, and sometimes it proves to be a disaster.

It is always very easy to communicate with people over phone or internet, much easier than communicate face to face. So many of us have willingly created a virtual society and forced ourselves to believe that another world exists. We become so addicted that we are glued to the computer and Facebook – irrespective of where we are. It creates intense interconnection between two people but like in most cases, it has never come without cost.

Author Rony Dasgupta beautifully portrays this thought in ‘Hottest Summer Night’ which is a story of two friends – Ronit and Aishwarya (Asu) who reconnects after a decade through Facebook. Commitment phobic Ronit and very much married and lonely Asu kindle their friendship over social network.

A shy Ronit talks his heart out to Asu on every matter and they discuss on every possible topics under the sun without inhibitions. Asu, on the other hand, finds a compatible comfort in Ronit over the net. The friendship turns into a deep reasoning and developed into a bond which (un)expectedly broke one day when Asu’s husband comes to know and confronts her. The ‘forever’ friendship ends, keeping Ronit wait in despair.

Hottest Summer Night is a sensitive and sensible book which is bound to touch your heart. With some witty lines and situational human error of judgement, the book is worth a read. It is a recommended book for all those who are addicted to social networking and stop socializing in real life.
