Comme ci comme ca

Ok so once in a while I do come across something mushy that I hate.. yes people, it is possible. And it has happened.

How to lose a guy in 10 days in supposedly a romantic comedy and since I have a soft corner for this genre, I felt the need to see it.

The Story goes something like this...

A good looking young woman is on an inane mission to get a guy, hook him, and do enough irritating things to make him pack his bags and leave ... within 10 days. You see, she has to write a magazine article about losing a guy in 10 days.

An intelligent, handsome young man, on the other hand, is on a mission to hook a girl, and make her fall in love with him... within 10 days.

As fate (or the director) would have it... the two foolish people meet each other. So while one is trying to make the other run away, the second is trying to hold things together.

Crazy? You bet. Funny? A bit. Romantic? A bit.

As is inevitable in such movies, the guy and girl fall in love with each other and thus override their missions of keeping and losing the other person.

So inane was the movie that at times I thought the director wasn’t sure what he was making. The pace of the movie was really slow and in the end the result was predictable.

Don’t get me wrong I like happily-ever-after kind of predictable results... but somehow this movie didn’t make me feel anything.

Since I’m a sucker for mush, this movie must have been really ridiculous, since it couldn’t even get me to sigh.

The acting

Was pretty much ok.

The actress, looked so much like J Lo at times, that I went through parts of it thinking it was in fact Ben Affleck’s latest muse.

The general idea

The general idea of the movie was to make people laugh and then fall in love with the movie. Neither did I laugh, nor did I fall in love. The final moments of the movie were supposed to make you feel happy about two people in love, coming together. But somehow I wasn’t convinced that they loved each other.

Throughout the movie the characters were being somebody they weren’t, so as to enable them to accomplish their losing and loving missions (God!). So then, in the end, did the characters fall in love with the real person behind the facade (which by the way, they had never seen) or did they fall in love with the crazy person they saw before them (who wasn’t even real).

I just didn’t quite get the love angle here.

Reasons to skip

* Stupid comedy. I don’t see how a girl coming to her boyfriend to clean his nose, is supposed to make you laugh!

* The movie wasn’t really romantic.

* The concept was inane. I think they should’ve established better reasons for the two people acting the way they did. It was ridiculous to see that the boss was ready to give the hero the contract only if he could make a girl fall in love with him in 10 days. Not quite sensible.

* They could’ve used the concept in a better way. They just weren’t able to keep the movie interesting. It was too slow.

Reasons to watch

* You like romantic comedies (I do too, but trust me, this isn’t the one)

* You wanna see J Lo’s look-alike (ok guys, I know you want another J Lo to lust after, but this one just has the same smile.. dunno about the as$ )

* You think it’ll be hilarious to see a relationship where one is trying to spoil it while the other is trying to hold it together (trust me, it isn’t the least bit funny)

* Ok, so sometimes the girl was really cute.. like when she gets this little fern and gifts it to the guy saying this is our ’love fern’. Now that was funny. So yea, this movie has it’s moments.

* You really have nothing better to do (then it’s ok)

* You’ve sworn to go against my recommendations (seen the pic? I’m even scarier in real life. Don’t you dare ignore my recommendations)

* You wanna see the guy zip around on his bike (he does look cute, and I do like his bike:) )

* The last bit, watching the guy zip through traffic to catch his lady love before she boards a plane out of the city, was a bit cute (a bit)

To watch or not to watch

Let me sum it up for you... this movie sucks... a bit. It’s not as funny as one would expect it to be.. and that’s because of the lack of pace, nothing else.

Just like the magazine the heroine worked for...

There are a million publishing houses making money on ’how to..’ books that promise to tell you how to keep a man, what to do, what not to do in a relationship... but sometimes, in love, it doesn’t matter what you do wrong or right. You just need to follow your heart once in a while.
