Holi is the festival of colours! It is a grand celebration where men and women spend the day playing with colored powder and water together. The beauty of the festival is that it brings out the child in every man / woman.
Who does not like to get coloured up and soaking wet right in the middle of a road? In our day to day lives, its impossible - which makes Holi even more fun and enjoyable.
However, we need to take care that we play safe Holi and do not hurt or injure anyone!
Please take the following precautions to ensure a SAFE AND HAPPY Holi:
- Historically, the colours that were used in Holi, came from natural sources like the flowers, leaves etc. Most of these flowers and leaves were absolutely safe and even had some medicinal properties and were good for the skin. Today these organic colours have been replaced by industrial colours manufactured through chemical processes. These have serious impact on the skin.
Please use natural / organic colours or water only. Do not use industrial colours specially Black, Silver, Gold etc. Gulals are relatively safer.
Please wear clothes that cover most of the skin and prevent skin rashes.
You can apply oil on the hair and body. A light coating helps to easily remove the colours after bath.
Do not apply colours anywhere near the eyes / nose / ears / open wounds.
Do not use eggs / mud / dirt to play Holi.
Do not spray colours / dirt etc on non partcipants in the Holi festival. Do not force anyone to play if they do not prefer it.
Women: Please be careful in the clothes you choose to wear on Holi. Remember that the clothes are going to get soaked. Avoid transperant / clingy clothes. Short skirts / low cut t shirts may expose you to unwanted attention. Avoid groups of men who seem to be drunk or reckless. Avoid clicking photos when wet - as camera cansee thru some clothes when wet.
Please be careful when you drinkbhang. Please drink in moderate quantities only. Remember that it takes about 30 mins for bhang to take effect - dont drink too much thinking its not having effect. Stick in a group(with atleast 1 sober person) when you are drunk.
Please do not drink and drive!(Not specific to holi)
