You are stronger than they are- Quit Smoking

Well, we all want to quit this habit. Don’t we? It is something that we try to quit everyday but could not do it. We all make resolution every year, every festival but could not gather enough courage and temperament to do so.


But if you haven’t quit smoking till now, it is the need of the hour to do it. No need to wait for the first day of the year but every time you smoke, you are losing 5 minutes of your precious life. Do it for your sake, your family’s sake.


Here are some ways that can and will help you in quitting if you are determined.




  1. Writing can help you. You won’t believe but it does. Take a piece of paper and write every thing you like about smoking. What makes you pick up a cigarette and lit-up it. On the other hand write all the things you dislike about it. How it is affecting you and how it is interfacing with your health, work and family etc. if you are brave enough, get feedbacks from family and friends about things they don’t like about your use of cigarettes. if the negative side outweighs the positive side, you are ready to quit.




  2. You can also write all the situations that you will encounter while quitting. For instance you will feel that smoking helps you in dealing with stress. So be ready with all the alternatives like.you can listen songs to deal with stress, you can take a 5 min walk, you can eat chocolates to deal with stress. So one should be ready with all the options.




  3. As you are ready to quit stop buying packets. Instead buy only one and only when you feel strong urge to smoke. This will check your consumption and will help you in quitting.




  4. Taking a week as basis, note the time and place where you smoked. This will help you in evaluation and you will be able to judge your performance.




  5. Prepare a list of things to do when a craving hits. This can include taking a walk, reading books, drinking water, talking to your partner, playing games with your pets, going out for a drive etc. Make copies of the list and always keep it with you so that whenever you feel strong desire, you can do something from that list.




  6. Put all the money you are saving on cigarettes in a large glass jar. This will help you realizing how much you were spending on them. this will make you feel good. You can actually use that money on something good.




  7. Switch to a cup of herbal tea or green time whenever you used to smoke. Drinking tea will provide the same stress relief as a hit of nicotine.




  8. Avoid substitutes like patches, gums, nasal sprays and E-cigarettes. They all keep the addiction alive and make it more difficult to stop because they perpetuate the illusion that you are making a sacrifice.






So friends, be ready to bring the change. You can not let yourself to a miserable death.
