My experience with Nicotine

I was going through some of the reviews written by esteemed members of Mouthshut.

They in the best interest of others, were guiding people to stop smoking. They had their own reasons to do so and gave numerous tips and advises that helped them quit this dreaded habit. Well to all the wonderful members of Mouthshut, I want to inform that I am a smoker . a regular one and still continue to do so. Now the question is why a review in this stop smoking column? Yes, the reason is that I just wanted to share my experiences related to this habit with you and most importantly because I am one among you people who want to quit smoking.

Well I am currently placed at Den Bosch, Netherlands. I work in Bangalore and I am currently on an official trip. As usual after lunch at office, I left my cubicle for a fast smoke but this time it wasn?t fast. I was just about to light my cigarette when I saw a familiar face approaching me. He was my colleague from my office(a freelancer consultant to be exact). A smart dutch guy with good manners. We had shared our views on countries, work and money quite a few times. He saw that I was about to light my cig. and said Hi!

As normal courtesy goes, I asked him if he wants a light. He said he doesn?t smoke and has left it 3 years back. He used to smoke 22-25 cig a day before that. My next obvious question was what helped you Quit smoking(Only because I too want to do it?). His answer was as follows:

?We generally think.what I will do without a smoke in a park? What I will do in the evening walking on the roads, if I don?t have a cig. Well will I stare at buildings, birds? bull sh*t. today I feel those feeling don?t matter a bit. coz life turns much more beautiful once you stop smoking.you have more time for you and your family.etc.

I missed several imp trains only coz I thought that I will finish this cig and take a train later. the result was that I missed imp meetings or was late?. I missed several imp things in life only because I was smoking?

Well this was what he said, but as usual I was not satisfied.he continued and gave me a roller-coaster of feeling:

? I quit smoking because one day my kid came and told me?My dad will die of cancer coz he smokes a lot? . that was it. I decided to quit smoking. I don?t have any right to hurt my kid, my loving wife. My clothes used to smell .i never knew it. My wife and kid used to smoke passively. I never thought of it. enough. . I said and stopped smoking?

He continued? when I asked how?.:

Ï started using nicotine pads on my arms(I don?t know if we get that in India but for info the are like our bandages which has nicotine in it and can give nicotine to ur blood for 24 hrs or so). I took that for 3 days .it freed me from using my hands to smoke.

And one day I said.?Stop this pads and all. I don?t need it?and that was it.I never smoked till today again?

Well this was just an incident?

It really motivated me to quit smoking and I shall surely work on it. at least for my sweety who wants I shouldn?t smoke.

If it motivates you, my review is a success for me. Adieu.

And best of luck for quitting the habit.
