Old Is Gold - Not anymore in Hp

I brought myself a new laptop in 2004 and that is HP NX 9040. I liked it very much and it was very useful to me and my writing work in all ways. I don’t know how any products always start giving trouble only after the three year warranty period. mine gave me trouble too. the charge was going off too quickly , one of my UDB port didn’t work and the screen would suddenly black out. it was quite slow when compared to latest dual processors. still sentiment wise I held on to my first laptop.


i got an original HP laptop charger from a hp show in alwarpet chennai. they wont allow me to even check if the charger was the right one. the cover said some other model, when I enquired they said my model laptop charges aren’t used anymore and they assured me it will the correct one. so I brought it for 3000rs opened the pack only to find that the charging pin was loose when I complained they said it will work and they cant take back as the packet was open. I cursed them and started using it. it did charge but I have to sit still careful not to move my laptop or the charger will stop charging or the pin will fall down.


this continued for 3 months and now the charger pin gets heated and never charges properly. the charge stands for less than 30 mins and it thought I will give it to service and maintenance or maybe change the damaged parts. I checked for the hp service center on the internet and came up with the address of one service center in peters road. I rang up confirmed and then visited with my laptop. when the receptionist asked for the model name I told her and she made a statement that it is old and thus no guarantee. I wasn’t looking for one anyway. so I waited for my turn and I placed my laptop before the engineer in charge. he opened and seeing the model he said, it is very old model we wont get spare parts". I didnt even tell him whats wrong nor did he enquire. how can say something without inspecting. I knew what will follow.


then without him asking I told him the problem. he again made a judgement that I should change the charger. I said I got new one just 3 months back. then he thought he will pull me down by saying maybe it is duplicate. I wasn’t giving up I gave him full details of the purchase from their own branded shop. so he left that issue and said "charger isn’t the problem, the motherboard is the problem". I patiently said "ok", so what do you suggest". he said " you should change the mother board", I said , "ok, what are the charges". he said, " as this is old model there is no spare part". I was shocked, he made it sound as if it was a 25 year od antique piece. it was just 4 years old.


i was losing my patients, " see, u need to give me a more responsible reply, u must give me an alternative solution of what to do, do u want me to buy a new laptop, or say that this is no use anymore, give me a good reason, you haven’t even touched it nor checked with any tool about what could have been wrong. you just assumed things and I had to tell you what would have been wrong. we could have gone to any shop which repairs computers, but we choose to come to the brand service center hoping to get a better service and advice".


he started giggling and said, " how I suggest, you have to choose whether to buy new one or not". I was furious and didn’t want to make a scene there so came out. if they don’t even have spare parts for just 4 yr old computers that too of their own brand then whats the use of selling computers. do they expect us to change with ever model they introduce. Arent they responsible for a customer service and solution. if they had suggested me to change the motherboard, I could have or if they said get a new one, and we will replace this model I could have done that very obligingly. irresponsible staff and their response is marring the name of the the company. I lost total interest in this brand and am looking out for better ones in future.
