Four years ago, I scrapped an Epson inkjet printer. Nobody was willing to service / repair it. I went for an HP Office jet 6208 which did scanning, printing, copying and faxing. Seemed a good deal though not very cheap. Over these four years, I have found -
a. Software for running it is bulky and finicky - throwing up nonsensical error messages every once in a while.
b. The software updates keep jamming my internet at awkward times
c. There is NO maintenance available. Its use and throw in the most extreme sense. In one instance, I had a paper jam which I could not fix because the printer would have to be opened up and Im no good at such things.
d. Now, after only four years of light to moderate use, I have to throw it out because HP has a no repair policy for these machines - or so Im informed by Redington. Absolutely no parts are available. It reminds me of the Sujata Dot matrix printer I had over a decade ago - the Company refused to repair but I was lucky to find somebody who was able to do it so that it ran for several years more.
e. Its quite power hungry.
f. And it had a colour cartridge which would keep running out though I never used it - and it wouldnt allow me to print unless I replaced it!
Im stuck - I need a good quality printer and a scanner and I dont know where to go. I sincerely regret having recommended HP to several of my clients a few years ago.
One last warning - if youre buying ANY printer, make sure its this years model or, better, NEXT years model - because it appears to be global policy to stop supply of parts after a couple of years.
