Hrithik Roshan is without a doubt one of today’s biggest
superstars in the Indian film fraternity. The lad who started out six
years ago with his first film ‘Kaho Naa Pyar Hai’ that went
on to become the biggest blockbuster of the year won him not only
accolades for his performance but the best debutante actor and best
actor awards as well. It is believed that while KNPH was being scripted
Hrithik had no idea that he was going to end up playing the lead role
in Papa’s film. He asked for six months for preparation and the
rest is history. He became an overnight sensation with men, women
and children all crying his name and labeling him as the next
superstar. Through all this hysteria Hrithik made sure he had his feet
firm on the ground and did not get carried away with the madness. Even
though his performances were excellent and exuberated talent a few of
his films flopped at the box office. One day Hrithik was on a pedestal
and the other he was being pulled down by the media.
“Things
changed drastically after KNPH became such a huge hit. It altered the
whole perspective of filmmakers about me. They thought my name could
sell anything even if the storyline and direction were poor.”
A
few bad films are what gave this talented actor all the flak he got
from the press labeling him as a one-film wonder. “A lot of my
films flopped and I was labeled as a one-film wonder after KNPH. After
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham became a huge hit I became a two-film wonder.
Now the media is sure to call me a three-film wonder. It really
doesn’t matter to me as long as I keep doing my job well.”
But all the same Duggu never let that pull him down. After a few poorly
made films he bounced back and how! He lashed out at his critics and
all those who wrote him off with a stupendous and flawless performance
in ‘Koi Mil Gaya’.
‘Koi
Mil Gaya’ saw Hrithik touch new heights playing a mentally
challenged character. One that repeated history for him all over again.
He was once again flooded with offers from reputed filmmakers, praises
and accolades for his mind-blowing performance. But this time Hrithik
was a lot more careful and knew better than to get carried away with
flooded offers. He took his time. He made sure he worked only with the
best in the business that could do full justice to him and his ability
as an actor. He signed up with Yash Raj Films for their sequel to the
surprise hit ‘Dhoom’ and more recently for Ashutosh
Gowarikar’s ‘Jodha Akbar’. He plays the negative lead
in the sequel to ‘Dhoom’ with Abhishek Bachchan and Uday
Chopra. But that was not it. Hrithik’s much-awaited sequel to his
home production ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ titled ‘Krrish’
hit theatres on the 23rd of June 2006.
Hrithik literally jumped
leaps and bounds with the success of this film as it has been recorded
as the biggest grosser in the history of Indian Cinema having grossed
more than a hundred and fifty crores in just one month.
Hrithik’s
talent as an actor can never be doubted and one of the reasons for that
is that he gets into the skin of his characters. “I gained muscle
weight because he had to look strong, muscular and have the physicality
of a superhero. Krishna had to look close to the epitome of good looks
and strength.” As far as the character goes we know by now that
it would be nothing less than perfection personified.
