This is my first HTC mobile phone. Prior to this I was a proud owner of Treo 600, which was purchased for 200 USD 5 years back from a friend of mine. I don’t get too carried away with flashy mobile phones, and I prefer not to change my phone unless it becomes unusable. So, I had to get rid of Treo because I dropped it for 100 times, and finally it gave up on me :).
I was looking for a phone which gives good performance, and which I could use for a long time. I narrowed to HTC TYII after reading reviews of the PDAs currently in the market. I could have went for Treo 750v, but I was also looking for something different.
My needs with mobile phone are very simple. I need a phone with clear reception, that I can use any where in the world, and I should be able to connect, access, read and send my emails easily. Any additional functionalities like Camera, GPS etcetera are good to have but not necessary. Treo was good, but accessing email is not as easy. I like the scroller on the left hand side of HTC, which is similar to Blackberry. The QWERKY keyboard is excellent, perhaps the best I have seen so far. The best feature is the tilted screen, excellent innovation! If someone ask me why not Nokia communicator and other mobiles like Imate, I would say tilted scren is the reason. Well, Nokia comes with a tilted screen, but it is not as classy as HTC (of course that’s in my opinion).
It is heavy, but I don’t have any complaint about it, because Treo was heavy too and I got used to heavy phones. Camera is much better than any other phones with similar functionalities.
It cost me 31k, and that I would say is a drawback. I would think once HTC diamond is released, the price might be reduced.
Overall, I am quite satisfied with this phone. It has been only a week since I bought this. I shall post more details, perhaps after couple of months.
