The title’Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ itself is hypocritic. Agar Aishwarya Rai Salman Khan ko apna dil de chuki thi toh Ajay Devkan ko dene ke liye uske paas dil aaya kaha se?
Let me list out the nonsensical things one by one:
1) Aishwarya’s father informs her about the arrival of a guest(Sameer); and gives her a gyaan that guest should be looked upon as God. Then why does he condemn the same God when he learns of his love for his daughter? I don’t think his’so-called’ sanskriti teaches him to demean the guest just b’coz he went ahead and loved his daughter. Where did the’guest is God’ feeling disappear?
2) The women of the house do nothing apart from putting on heavy sarees with gowry make-up and dancing on the tunes of garba. Ideally, a home-maker has loads of chores to do; but here, when there are servants to do everything; the women are just busy in gossiping and laughing on Salman’s stupid jokes.
3) The patriarch of the house blabbers about Indian culture; then why do all the family members have breakfast/lunch/dinner on the dining table? Why don’t they follow’Bhartiya Baithak’?
4) Aishwarya’s mother fixes her marriage with Ajay Devgan just be’coz he belongs to a good family. On the other hand, Ajay Devgan has a proven track-record of losing each and every case. It means; the groom’s achievement mean nothing to the bride’s parents; the only criterion is to belong to good family and have loads of money in the pockets.
5) Aishwarya’s father gives her every sort of freedom; but when it comes to choosing life-partner; he is there to impart an unnecessary lecture; "Is ghar mein ladkiyon ko apna jeevan saathi chunne ki izazzat nahi." and all that crap. He looks upon his daughter as a fixed deposit; which needs to be transferred in the name of the person of their choice after maturity:-(
6) Salman belongs to Italy; and Aishwarya Rai is from Gujarat; then how does Hindi come in between? How could the entire family converse in Hindi with him? Did Salman Khan opt for’Hindi’ as his 3rd language while studying in Italy?
Let me list down the direction flaws:
1) Aishwarya gets shot in the neck; then in hospital why was her hand with plasters? Ideally her neck should have collars. I guess the bullet got internally shifted from neck to hand.
2) When Aishwarya doesn’t look upon Ajay Devgan as her husband; why is she struggling in the hospital to bharofying her’maang’ with the ek chutki sindoor? Was that bharofying for Salman?
3) Sanjay Leela Bhansali boasts of being a hardcore Gujju. Let me ask you; which Gujju community observes’Karva Chauth’(The song "Chaand Chupa Baadal Mein" is dedicated to Karva Chauth)?
I am a Gujju by birth; and could challenge Sanjay for this. In Gujjus, we have’Jaya Parvati’ and’Diwasa’; but not Karva Chauth:-(
4) The bridge on which Aishwarya is running is in Hungary; whereas the location shown in the film is Italy. Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, did u have’geography’ as an optional subject in your school?
Last, but not the least, Aishwarya’s parents do not trust their daughter’s choice and the virtues they have inculcated in her; so much so that she is drawn towards suicide!
I really wonder what makes such movies blockbusters. I was in std. 10th when the movie was released; so could watch it only after I was done with my 10th. However, I don’t regret not watching it in cinema halls; would have ended up wasting time as well as money. My classmates tried to give me a complex as to I had missed something very beautiful; but I literally pity their choice in this regard.
The only saving grace of this movie was its music; even though’Nimbooda Nimbooda’ was allegedly copied from local artists.
