HUM TUM ................ well I was kind of looking forward to the film, the main reason being SAIF ALI KHAN . The promos also looked interesting and so did the HUM TUM cartoon strips ............. the film was quite hyped up and was being promoted in all television channels and to my surprise the film lived up to its expectation.
KUNAL KOHLI’s debut film MUJHSE DOSTI KAROGE was a disaster but in HUM TUM he does a fairly decent job as the director. HUM TUM is a fun, romantic film which you can watch with your whole family I loved HUM TUM even more coz I watched it a week after I watched that joke of a film MAIN HOON NA .......... any film will look a classic after having watched that film. But jokes apart, HUM TUM is a highly recommended film ........... for its acting, humour and romance.
STORY ..............there is not much to the story, a boy-meet-girl romance but approached quite differently. The film revolves around two main characters RIA PRAKASH (RANI MUKHERJI) and KARAN KAPOOR (SAIF ALI KHAN) and how they fall in love.
ACTING ............. The film boast of a good star-cast. RANI and SAIF are a fresh pair, and share good on-screen chemistry.
SAIF ALI KHAN as KARAN KAPOOR, the cartoonist is a treat to watch. His comic timing, is second to none. After DIL CHAHTA HAI, this is another knock out performance ......... WAY TO GO SAIF. HUM TUM belongs to SAIF ........... he is adorable.
RANI MUKHERJI, is good as the tomboyish RIA in the first half and as the quiet and sobre girl in the second. Both RANI and SAIF have well sketched out characters and get ample scope to showcase their talents.
KIRAN KHER as RANI’s punju mother is also very funny, I am not exactly a fan of her coz I find her acting too loud but in this film she is a riot and so is RISHI KAPOOR as Saif’s father. Its good to see him back after a long time. Rati agnihotri as Saif ali khan’S mother is passable. The good thing about the film is that there are not much of character actors in the film. There are some special appearances though .......... ABHISHEK BACHACHAN, JIMMY SHERGILL, ISHA KOPIKAR and SHEHNAJ .......... but there is nothing to write about them except that they help the film to move further.
MUSIC .......... is by JATIN-LALIT and I love the soundtrack. The songs are also well used and picturised in the film. CHAK DE and HUM TUM ............. are my favourites from the film.
Now coming to the direction ................ the film is quite well directed, esp coming
from a man who made a horror called MUJHSE DOSTI KAROGE. The comic scenes in the film are excellent and the love story between RANI and SAIF is presented in a very refreshing, noval and mature way. Kunal kohli has also extracted good performances from his star-cast.
There is a right amount of romance, drama, comedy and emotions in the film and there is not a single dull moment in the film. Its complete entertainment ........... and the credit for that can be given the the director. Good show ......
The film has been beautifully shot as well ............. and the dialouges, esp the one-liners are simply awesome. And nobody but Saif could have said those dialouges with such a staight face.
Over all a clean famly entertainer ........... no cheap stuff, no item numbers(thankfully)
and if you are a die-hard romantic and SAIF ALI KHaN’s fan you just can’t afford to miss HUM TUM ........... I am planning to watch it again in the theatre and will recommend it to you too ........
