Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye has an impressive storyline and several twists and turns to keep the viewer engrossed, and on tenterhooks at times. But the story does have its share of inspirations from films like KKHH, DDLJ and Forces of Nature
Aditya (Akshay) is engaged to the ambitious Sonia (Bipasha Basu). While she goes off to pursue her fashion design business, he is posted to Canada to work in what appears to be an automobile showroom .
Several chance meetings with Jia (Kaif) lead to a bond between two lonely people in a far off land. She’s an idle rich kid shopping for her wedding trousseau, disappointed with the lack of affection from her fiancé (Anil Kapoor).
Jia and Aditya eventually fall in love and just as they are about to make a decision about their future together, a turn of events rips them apart.
The action shifts back to India, with the climax of the film taking place at Jia’s wedding. Will tradition win over love?
The film starts on a dramatic note and the pace is maintained right till the race competition , but it slips considerably as Anil Kapoors character is introduced.
The pace gathers momentum again at the pre-climax and keeps the audience interest alive. But in the climax, things are stretched to such an extent that the viewer starts getting restless.
But theres no denying the fact that Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye does boast of a handful of sequences that remain etched in your memory even after the show has concluded. The Akshay-Kaatrina sequence in the initial reels and the delicate scenes between them are well penned and executed with aplomb. The emotions do strike a chord in these portions.
The sequence between Akshay and Anil in the pre-climax is another example of polished writing and brilliantly execution.
Director Raj Kanwar is in his elements in a few dramatic sequences, but the hammer-strong impact of his previous works is missing this time.
Music is another sore point. The film clearly lacks an enticing score, which was also the hallmark of the makers earlier projects. Barring title, the remaining numbers are strictly average.
Camerawork is stylish and amongst the fine points of the film. Dialogue are nice at places.
Akshay is a complete miscast – the role demanded a young actor. Although the actor has done a credible job, but is hard to digest , a 40+ something guy still searching for love and what not!
Katrina comes up with a sincere performance. Bipasha is alright. The child artiste is cute and a complete natural. Anil Kapoor is getting typecast. Bhagyashree is effective.
On the whole, Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye is a decent film that has emotional moments as its trump card...
