Here come Abbas-Mustan with another slick, cool look, and colourful flick. The successful duo continue their Hero v/s Antihero journey from Ajnabee, where they last left. Abbas-Mustan have made this Hero v/s Antihero theme as the USP of their movies, and they know how to do it in style. One wishes if they had been able to do similar justice to the climax, which surprisingly slows down the pace where it should have been vice versa. Karan(Akshaye Khanna), a dancer by profession, is very ambitious. He wants to be the richest man on earth, with Priya (Amisha Patel) his girlfriend as his wife. And he can go to any extent to realise his dreams, even if that needs cheating and killing. The passion to fulfill his dreams makes him hatch a plan to lure Raj Singhania (Bobby Deol), a multi millionare and one of top ten industralists, into a marriage with Priya. He thus manages to get a job for his dancing troupe in a luxury cruise owned by Raj, and then schemes a Nice guy Raj, falling for Priya. The pace of the movie quickens here, and the sence shifts to Jaipur, where Raj marries Priya at his Khandaani Palace with all goodie goodie uncles & Aunties & Didis & Bhaiyyas & not to forget a Bonus Dadi Maa. Here he exhibits his modesty and goodness which impresses Priya to an extent that she realises and refuses to go ahead with her plan with Karan saying it would be unethical to cheat Raj who loves her more than his life. Here starts the final over of the movie, with A Perfect Murder influence and then black mails, followed by counter blackmails. And when the viewer is aching his body with the Twists & Turns of the script, comes a 24 Carat Predictable climax, as straight as it comes. Humraaz is a decent thriller with good looking sets, polished locations and a very good use of modern technology. Whether its the cell-phones, answering machines, dictaphone, video recording a la tehelka (Video Kaand), web-cam, tape-recorders, it uses every aspect of these to enculcate it well in the script. Himesh Reeshamiya lends a catchy music score with chartbuster Bardasht nahi kar sakta, and hummable tunes like Humraaz title song, Tujhe apna dil dene ka hai mazaa. Bobby Deol does his job decently and does justice to his role. Amisha Patel looks million bucks and tries to be consistent, apart from a few stone faced expressions which remind us of her previous nuclear bomb, Aaap Mujhe Achhe Lagne Lage. But the star of the movie is clearly Akshaye Khanna. One wishes if he had got such roles with better characterisations in his previous films. He plays his role with such an ease and is a pleasure to watch and clearly is a winner. Johny Lever provides some laughs. I wish Abbas-Mustaan had worked out a better climax to the end.Overall, Humraaz is a paisa vasool, and can be a refreshing change from the regular Boredom Romantic movies, and Multi Million dollar weddings.
