Genre : drama
Rating : avoid it.
Warning : the depiction of hyderabad and hyderabadis in this film is grossly inaccurate.
Brief intro on hyderabad blues : boy comes from the usa for an arranged marriage, accidentally meets a girl, falls in love, battles society and family, gets married, lives happily ever after.
The charm of the film was its low-budget look, the home-video feel and the impishly simple love story. the characters were fresh (at the time), the american returned confused desi, the bubbly-yet-smart indian girl, the boyishly crude hyderabadi jokes, they were all refreshing.
Cut to hyderabad blues2 : kukunoor hasnt learnt anything about making movies. several years (and a handful of mostly forgettable films) after hyderbad blues, kukunoor still expects us to digest the same home-video. now with more boring themes and an ugly lead actress (the old ashwini had some charm, this one looks bitter throughout).
Concepts like adultery (imagined), divorce (temporary) and the conservative telugu family (ack!) are just some of the stereotypes this film throws at you. The characters are quite drab too, the guy is no longer american, the girl is no longer spunky and the friend is no longer funny. You keep watching, hoping there will be a bit of humour, some twist in the storyline that might just redeem this movie, but sadly.... no. This is as boring and badly made as is possible with the budget.
The hyderabadi in me is contemplating class-action suits against this foreign-returned, dim-wit for maligning the good name of my city.
The movie fan in me is regretting wasting two hours of my life..
