Hyderabad...The Pearl City of India. Hmmn! how many of you know that Hyderabad is known as the pearl city? Its now more or less a decade over 400 years that this city has been formed. It is also known as Bhagyanagar.
I cant go telling about my city in a systematic way. I will be telling in bit and pieces as far as I know.
HISTORY : When almost entire India was under British rule, the great Nizam of Hyderabad still refused to handle Hyderabad to Britishers. Ofcourse, no sooner than later it was taken away by them.
Hussainsagar (famously known as Tank Bund locally) was formed to put an end to the thirst of Hyderabadis. But, being in an very much urban area an end has been put to the thirst of Hyderabadis but in the OTHER WAY by making people unable to drink water from it. Efforts are on the rolls to make Tank Bund atleast neat and tidy by diverting all the polluntants from it.
Golconda tombs, a must see place for all, is sadly CORNERED because of which it has not gained the celebrity (infact royal) status it should have received. Some past royalty was tried to be re-induced but not as much as expected. Even between all these odds, the only good thing is the Light Show.
Charminar, what a master-piece of construction it is! Sadly, it is losing its shine because of the pollution being caused through the ever plying traffic. The road-side vendors and the busy people making purchases at Madina is really colourful. And the same is chaotic too depending upon the situations.
MYTH or FACT : It has been said that there is a tunnel between Charminar and Golconda and whoever tries to venture into that tunnel will never see the light again.
ABOUT HYDERABADIS : Under normal circumstances, people here are very caring, helpful even lazy too with a take-it-easy attitude. The best dates to spend in Hyderabad are January 15 (kites festival day) and Ganesh immersion day (sorry folks! cant tell you the exact because the date swings with each passing year)
A must say is that Hyderabadis spend money a lot on shopping (including me).
Other places to visit in Hyderabad : Shilparamam, Durgam Cheruvu (Secret Lake), KB Park, Public Gardens, Snow Park, IMax, Lumbini Park, Necklace Road, Birla Temple, Ramoji Film City, Sanghi Temple and GMC Sports Complex.
MISCELLANEOUS : Hyderabadi Biryani and Hyderabadi Chat.
SPORTS : Quite interesting! Its slowly getting onto the international arena slowly and steadily.
Tennis : Sania Mirza
Cricket : VVS Laxman
Hockey : Mukesh
Chess : Humpy
All in all, a great city with a mixture of all religions varying from Hindus, Christians, Muslims to Parsis, Sikhs, etc. So, be sure to visit Hyderabad this time around.
Did I forget anything worth mentioning?
