I wanted a good city car: one that can give me about 13-14 kmpl, below/around 6L and reasonable space inside. The cars I short listed were : Corsa Sail, Fiat Palio, Hyundai Getz and Maruti Swift. I was also tempted to buy Ford Ikon Flair. The reasons why Sail went out of consideration was that I was told the maintenance cost is high. Even though I liked Palio after my test drive, I had to leave it out as I am not too fond of Fiat models available in India (remember Uno?) :) Plus some of my colleagues and frineds did not have a good experience with the Fiat dealer in Bangalore. I had a HUGE crush on Maruthi Swift but I had to wait close to 8 months and ruled it out. I loved Getz’s non-flamboyant looks, spacious boot space and good interiors. So, here’s my feedback on getz after having driven it close to 9 months. Good turning radius, gears are smooth (even though I have a slight problem switching to 2nd gear from 1), spacious interiors. I haven’t sat behind but wife and parents say it’s decent. I have touched 80 KMPH in City and braking is good (mine does not have ABS). Engines are also less noisy (as compared to other cars I have driven). Mileage : Poor. At best I get about 11 KMPL. That is if I remember to switch off the engines at signals and switch off the AC every now and then.
