Service centers need improvement.

I have been a happy owner of a 2000 model Santro unitl late. I have had the car for over 3 years now( bought it used with 23k kms on the clock) and though I have been happy wih the cars performance in general, I have been extremely dissatisfied with the kind of service the Hyundai service center does. I have tried 2 different service centers in Kerala, and have had a far from satisfactory experience at both of them. The sevice center close to where I live in Trivandrum, Kerala serviced my car about 4 times, all paid services, and I had to take the car back there for something or the other every time. Mind you, these were just routine 6K interval services and there was no reason why the car should run worse than how it did before the service. But inspite of paying a hefty bill of around 2K everytime, without exception, the quality of service continues to be deplorable. They are good at replacing parts, because that is where the profit margin comes from, and they happily tell you which all parts need replacement everytime you visit the service center. But when it comes to servicing in the true sense of the word, they are useless. I have observed that my plugs were wrongly gapped, the valve clearances were out, and the brakes were not synchronized, inspite of paying the price for all these for various services. I was sick of going back to the service center everytime after the service since they invariably goofed up something. I decided to try another ( Reputed!) service center in a different city, Kochi and my experience there was worse that all my past experiences put together. They have boards displaying that there will be a service call made within 7 days of a service, and that they do it right the first time. Not only that these promises were not kept, they also messed up my car completely. It vibrated considerably when the AC was switched on, did not have enough acceleration and obviously had poor fuel efficiency too. Unfortunately the day after I got the car serviced was a holiday and I was unable to take it back there to get it fixed. After I got back to Trivandrum, I mailed Hyundai cust service and they asked me to take it to a service center at Trivandrum, with whom they had coordinated, to get it fixed. They found that the service center at Kochi had done a miserable job with the tuning and the timing and I had to redo it at a cost of Rs 365 ! This is after paying almost Rs 2000 at the service center less than 4 days earlier. The service center at Kochi is yet to reimburse this additional expense to me, which they are bound to do. It looks like I may have to take it up higher for them to act. I am seriously thinking if it is worth going for another Hyundai when I need a change. Perhaps this is one reason why none of the Hyundai cars featured in the JD Power customer satisfaction survey. The service centers have been consistently giving the shorter end of the stick to the customers while Hyundai has been busy trying to build its brand image worldwide...
