Tuscon ---2017's Empire SUV

Pros

  • .Impressive practicality

  • .Great value for money

  • .Distinctive styling

Cons

  • .Poor rear visibility

  • .Limited standard safety kit

  • .Automatic gearbox slow to react While its striking appearance may not be to everyone’s taste, we wouldn’t expect anyone to find its high specification a problem, with alloy wheels, air-conditioning, DAB radio and Bluetooth all standard. The Tucson is practical too, with more luggage space than the Nissan Qashqai orSkoda Yeti, along with enough space for five adults. There’s an impressive roster of safety kit too, although it’s a shame the most advanced safety equipment only comes as standard with higher trim levels. The Tucson comes with either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The latter is only available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine with 134 or 183bhp, and either a manual or automatic gearbox. Stick with front-wheel drive and there’s a 1.6-litre petrol with 130bhp or a 1.7-litre diesel with either 114bhp and a manual gearbox, or 139bhp and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. the smaller diesel with a manual gearbox boasts the best economy, while the 183bhp diesel with four-wheel drive is thirstiest, returning around 43.5mpg. Low running costs, backed up by Hyundai’s excellent five-year/unlimited mileage warranty, along with attractive styling and good value for money make theHyundai Tucson a good ownership proposition. It should be especially appealing for families who need a car tough enough to cope with any weather or activity thrown atit.
