It Gives You Enough Reasons To Do So

Karan Johar well known for his candy floss romantic entertainers is back as a producer with another romantic flick & has introduced to the film industry a new name Punit Malhotra, who has to his credit story, screenplay, dialogues & direction of the film.

First timer Punit Malhotra is at your service with his debut vehicle ’I Hate Luv Storys’ with punctured & deflated tyres that doesn’t allow the vehicle to move forward, even when you have pushed the accelerator to the maximum.

Reason is very simple, it has the wafer thin story that we have heard, seen, loved & detested uncountable times. If anything that differs is the treatment that the director has tried to give to the film but couldn’t succeed.

Sonam & Imran are a part of the film making unit, which is making a film called ’Pyar Pyar Pyar’ that is nothing but an overdose of hot shots taken from few SRK’s films made by YRF & KJo. They are opposite of each other. She loves love stories & he doesn’t believe in them. When have you seen opposite repels? So they get attracted & the same old drama begins with everything known to the viewers.

The first 30 minutes of the film are very promising & Punit did handle the situations well by introducing the characters & bringing them under same roof to work together. But once they are together, the film slows down.

Post interval the film drags & becomes so predictable that you can sleep for an hour & will find nothing much has happened because you know the climax, you just wait for that to happen so that you can leave the theater with a sigh of relief.

As a producer Karan Johar has not compromised with the production values & it shows on the screen. How I wish he had approved a quality story for the film.

Manish Malhotra deserves a pat on his back for the costume design. They match the quality that we have seen in any of YRF or KJo film before. Especially Sonam Kapoor looks very gorgeous in those outfits.

The film has a passable music by Vishal Shekhar with two good numbers I Hate Love Stories & Tere Bin. Other songs though fit the bill but you don’t carry them with you once you have left the theater.

Photography is passable. Dialogues are pretty ordinary.

Karan Dave as Imran’s friend did get some funny lines & succeeds in making you laugh.

Samir Soni in the role of director Veer Kapoor has done a good job. Let us hope he get some better roles in future.

Sameer Dattani gets a small role but makes his presence felt.

Sonam Kapoor looks beautiful & has done justice to the role given to her. But she still needs to work hard as she seems to be uncomfortable in the scenes that required seriousness.

Imran Khan did a wonderful job till he played the man who doesn’t believe in love but struggles to perform in the serious scenes when he actually falls in love.

As a debutant Punit Malhotra had too much on his plate to eat & digest as he preferred to don the mask of a person who wrote the story, screenplay & dialogues besides directing the film. Moreover his hangover with SRK’s style of acting, body language given to the actor who played the clown of SRK seems to have gone overboard.

Connections & relations can get you a job but to convert that opportunity into a career becomes the responsibility of the person who gets the job. Punit seem to have missed the bus this time.

Overall a pretty ordinary film, which will attract the college students, who are trying to discover the myth called LOVE. But unfortunately the film won’t help them too.
