Ok, so the name may sound like its a new offering from Apple Inc. However, it is in no way related to the Macs or Pods that Apple is really busy promoting in India.
To protect humans from the rapidly evolving brains of machines, read as robots, there laws of robotics were postulated. Heres a reconstruction from the bottomless memory, which basically means everything just falls out.
1. A robot shall not harm a human being
2. A robot shall obey a human being as long as it doesnt conflict with the first law.
3. A robot shall protect himself, as long as it doesnt conflict with the first and second law.
The plot basically revolves around the death of a professor, who was responsible from framing these laws. The professors death is believed to be suicide by the authorities, except Detective Spooner (Will Smith), who doesnt trust robots. When inspecting the crime scene the detective finds a robot, Sunny, hiding there. Sunny breaks free and the detective sets out to bring him in.
Detective Spooner is only one who believes that Sunny had something do with the professors death. But that would mean that the three laws were broken, which would be impossible. If I say anything else Ill be revealing too much and I dont wann ruin the movie for anyone. :)
A very well written story and the action sequences are breath-taking. It explores the possibility of a self-evolving machine. Pieces of redundant code (programming instructions) adding up to give character to a machine. Giving it the power to think beyond what it is supposed to. Inserting a why between the usual True and False programmed into its binary protocols.
It is inspired from a book written by the great visionary Isaac Asimov. I believe he was the one who postulated the three laws. So if the well-written script, with the breath-taking action sequences and totally awesome sound and graphics effects arent enough to drag you to the theatre , then behold. Theres always Will Smiths renegade sense of humor and his dont-mess-with-me attitude.
Definitely a must watch
