I am an NRI customer of ICICI Bank. I had initially opened FCNR deposit with them, and recently opened an NRO savings account. However, I did not get to use the savings account for very long since they placed a debit freeze on the account! And nobody is helping me at all with it since I’m not in India. Even if I was in India it feels like I wouldn’t get any help. Almost 2 lakh has been stuck in the account for a while with no recourse. In fact it would have been about 6 lakh stuck actually but I luckily was able to send them some letters and request that my FD’s be liquidated to my HDFC Bank account instead of the ICICI savings account. Now I rescued 4 lakh but still 2 lakh remaining in their hands:/
I got some great help when I initially opened the account with them, but unfortunately FCNR account did not come with any NetBanking access or the like. So I had no idea what was going on with my account for several months. They even renewed my FCNR FD without informing me at all. I had even told them I do not want to renew it but they went ahead and renewed it anyways. Furthermore even after opening NRO savings account which is supposed to come with NetBanking, they did not give me NetBanking access until I had to send several letters to get it opened.
Mobile Banking app can’t be downloaded since I’m not in India. What the heck. And NetBanking is on some ancient system compared with that of HDFC Bank or Kotak Mahindra Bank. They recently updated it, maybe it is better, but I haven’t been able to use it due to my frozen account. Looks like they still don’t offer IMPS either for NRI customers, which is just ridiculous. FD rates are horrible and fees are very high for everything.
One thing I loved about this account is that it was very easy to do a cash deposit. No questions or bother. Technically I can still do it, but there is no point since they aren’t letting me take any money out of the account.
