When I went to the theatre to view Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi, I had some reservations about the movie because, I was unsure how the end-product would have been after too much hype.
But, to tell you the truth, I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED.
THere are several parts that makes you laugh. It is a laugh riot.
THe film starts with a message stating that this film is a work of fiction and any relevance to anybody living or dead in earth, mars, jupiter, saturn, etc., is purely coincidental. This sets the stage for all that has to follow.
In the immediate scene, all the characters on the screen are introduced incluiding a lizard. This particular scene showcases the truth that the director is a cartoonist. No words spoken, no deeds done, yet the director has the viewers in splits.
Then the film begins to sag a bit since Imsai turns into a real Imsai and his childish behaviour beyond a point is irritating. At this point they introduce the second vadivelu. In the next fifteen minutes, we expect some dramatic happening but all turns sour and the film again starts sagging.
Post-interval, the film gathers momentum and again you are in the edge of the seat.
THe director has launched an attack on MNCs by dubbing Pepsi as ’Gapsi’ and Coca-Cola as ’Akka Mala’. Under several scenes, we could sense the social conciousness of the director.
THe last 30 minutes or so is the best part of the film. The film is worth being seen just for the last 30-40 minutes alone.
THe scenes I liked the most are :
V.S.Raghavan describing the meeting os the estranged twins.
The Scene when vadivelu escapes from the under-ground prison.
The meeting between the bear and Vadivelu
The fighting sequence when Nasser identifies the pulikesi from ukkrabuddhan
