What can be said about the man who took country by storm? Garth Brooks came at us fast and Garth Brooks pushed country music into main stream before Shania Twain or Faith Hill did! The project Garth Brooks did as Chris Gaines was supposed to be a soundtrack to a movie that never happened! I personally wonder if Mr. Brooks was just experimenting here with this disc! Maybe he felt a change was in order here, then again maybe it was a bad deal that fell through!
This unique disc opens up with Thats The Way I Remember it.this track to me seems typically Garth with a slight pop feel! Lyrics in this song are up lifiting and his vocal just seems so smooth! What I like about this song is he just simply sounds like himself here! Too bad this particular track was not on his hit album Sevens!
Lost In You is track #2 on the cd and if you really want to make a comparison, he has a Babyface feel here! Stretching into true R&B on this! This sounds like a song that even a hit maker like Mariah Carey would do! I totally love it and if memory serves me right, this track was aimed at radio, and it is sad that nobody got it! It is a pretty song, and not to mention, if you want to charm a boyfriend or girlfriend, this is a perfect love song!
The third track on the disc is Snow In July, and this sort of has a Stevie Wonder feel at the beginning! I like it! Garth does something very different here.it is simply a rocked up funk like song! Nothing like you would expect from Mr. Brooks! My advice is play this song a couple of times, I bet you will find yourself liking it!
Driftin Away is our fourth track on the album, and it is a slow piece! His voice is charming and smooth! Garth is great at putting his touch on love songs! This puts me to mind of a future song of Faith Hills on Cry! In fact if I had to make a request, this would make a better duet and Faith Hill or Leann Rimes would add a magic touch! That is the only thing that is missing! If I was to hear Garth live, this would be one I would want to hear!
Track #5 is Way Of A Girl, and it is yet another different song! Garth shows like a funky rock side again! Possibly Chicago like without the horns! He pulls it off with an edge but with soothing back ups that harmonize perfectly! I give this song two thumbs up!
Unsigned Letter is our 6th track! Straight up rock and roll here folks! I must compare this to Matchbox 20! That even sounds like it in title! I like it! I would say this is one a true Garth fan must listen to over and over to get a feel for it! An acoustic mix of this song would be awesome too! Not a bad song here at all!
It Dont Matter To The Sun is our 7th track and this brings us back to our Garth Brooks being typically Garth! This would be a track you could put next to an older hit such as The Dance or The Red Strokes.a beautiful ballad that is nicely sung! Lyrics are pretty too! This would be good to hear on something like an unplugged album from Garth!
Right Now is the 8th track on the disc and this starts out with a light dance beat! Very different for Garth too! Starts out with a rapper, and that is unusual! He samples Everybody Get Together from the 1960s in this and it is a cool track! Way to go Garth! Rare, but awesome! Two thumbs up for this really rare track!
Main Street is the 9th track, not to be confused with the Bob Seager hit! Trisha Yearwood co-wrote this country/rock song! His vocal is great and it is sort of Tim McGraw like here! Would have made a good song for radio!
White Flag is the 10th track on the cd and it starts out with guitars, electric and acoustic! Very much a bluesy tune! Garth gone Eric Clapton here! A stretch! Would be cool to see Eric and Garth hook up on stage to sing this together! I like this track a lot!
The 11th track is Digging For Gold, and it has country feel, but country music that Garth is not famous for, this is more like the style of Hank Williams Jr like! It is interesting! I really like this, not to mention it is a good one to jam to if you were just hanging out with friends at the bar and just sharing drinks and laughs! Would make a great jukebox favorite!
Maybe is the 12th track on this, starting out softly on piano and strings, and it is back to being typically Garth! Sort of pop tune here! Possibly a Billy Joel like song! His vocals are soaring here! I like the fact he can hit high notes like he does here! A really cool tune!
Our last track closing the album out is My Love Tells Me So! Very different here too! He is very Chicago like here.horns and piano and even in vocal! This is a song like Peter Cetera and the boys would sing! One would almost swear it is Chicago.but Surprise it is none other than Garth Brooks himself! I really enjoy this up beat song! Very cheerful and unique!
Over all this is a great album and only people who enjoy albums with artistic value would enjoy this rather unsual disc from Garth! True country fans need not apply to this! I recommend this only to real fans of music!
