This movie may not be a forrest gump , Schindler’s list etc or this may not even be in the catageory. But this a hard core commercial movie dat all people around the world loved ( except the critics ) dat may be why this is the 11th biggest box office blockbuster of all time. I am from coimbatore , a city in tamil nadu where it was hard for enlish movies to captivate people for two weeks straight in 1996. This was the only movie of that time to run for 110 days here. That pretty much explains that this flick has no lang barriers.
The movie wastes no time in gradually building the plot. It jumps to the main plot in the first scene.By now every one of u reading this review would’ve watched this flick so I don’t think I should explain the plot & all but still this is a review hence I must.
Aliens from deep space attack earth all of a sudden to kill all humans & take away our natural resources. But we, the people fight back mainly with the help of a fighterjet pilot , American president and a computer freak who wants to save the planet all the time. The alien ship has some sort of shield. Jeff implates virus to the mother ship and the destroy it with a nuke . Earth is saved. End of story. Simple right? but some how magicians Ronald & dean make this into a 2 1/2 hour enjoyable a** kicking adventure film.
Performance of all the lead roles were awesome. Will as usual a top notch performance . Jeff Brilliant & Bill - super cool. some of the dialogues may be found cheesy but I loved them like...
President whitmore saying...’’ The question of whether or not we are alone in this universe has been answered’’, his speech before the final show down etc...
I also loved ’’ welcome to the earth’’ by will smith. ’’ There r millions of people scared out there.........
secretary: I am one of them’’... These were super cool stuff.
The sub plots were also satisfying. Especially jeff punching bill back then... ( Yeah who knows the boy behing ur girl would turn up President of ur country one day???). Using the virus , Area 51 were all brilliant. Not to forget the specialeffects... it may look crapy now but it was one of the best back then & fully provided the back support this flick needed. Bravo Mr. Emmerich & Mr. Dean.
Afetr saying all this I still can’t stop. I think I have seen this movie abt 14 times & still don’t find it boring.
WARNING : THIS PICTURE IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE IN NATURE. THOSE WHO HAVEN’T SEEN IT HAVE LOT OF SPARE TIME WITH U BECAUSE U MAY WANT TO SEE THIS OVER & OVER AGAIN.
