I have been living in India for a year now and I have more or less come to a conclusion about Chennai, India.
P.S I dont mean to offend anyone as these are my personal views.
Here I go:-
The Ugly
1) Some people can be a real pain in the neck. I am referring to their attitudes. I have heard people say that Chennaites are friendly etc. but I cant seem to accept that. When I mean people, I mean those from pedestrians to auto-rickshaws to shop assistants. They can be rude and arrogant.
2) Traffic is another pain in the neck. Those on the roads have 0% patient levels and are 0% inconsiderate. They cant even wait/stop for 5 seconds to let another vehicle go. They just seem to be in a hurry. They horn for no reason, clearly showing their impatience.
3) I simply cant stand the unhygenic conditions in Chennai. People throw litter where they want to or urinate in the public. Scenes like these are a real put-off to anyone. Will these people throw litter in their homes? or urinate anywhere else in their houses? They dont have a sense of belonging that this is my country.
4) Safety wise is also another question mark. A woman cant walk alone on the streets after the sun goes down. Too many pick pocketers, thieves etc etc.
5) Water problems is one that need to be mentioned.
The pretty
1) Shopping is a great experience for anyone.
2) Lots of places to visit.
3) Good food.
In general, Chennai/India is a nice place but for someone like me ( a foreigner), I dont feel at home here.
Cheerio!
