Our experience of the new Audi A5 is so far limited to a short test drive in Portugal, but that was enough to tell us that it’s a genuine alternative to its key rivals, the BMW 4 Series and Mercedes C-Class Coupé.
The A5 is plusher inside and marginally more practical than both of those cars, plus its available with some absolutely fantastic engines.
True, if you pick the right 4 Series you’ll enjoy more rewarding handling on a winding country road, but the A5 is the better all-rounder. In the right spec, it could also potentially top the similarly impressive all-round talents of the latest Mercedes C-Class Coupé.
