Indian Army , the highly motivated Army.

Indian Army like any other army is a professional army. It is professionally trained and maintained and it is the 3rd largest army in the world which is more than one million in strength. It proved its strength and professionalism in 1971 war when it could over run and capture East Pakistan (Bangladesh) in 15 days when Pakistan army numbering nearly one lakh surrendered. This simply showed to the world how professional is Indian Army. One more interesting aspect we can observe is its fighting spirit with an unknown enemy called terrorists of Kashmir. We can remember that the Great Russian army was unable to withstand the pressure (from ’’freedom fighters of Afghanistan’’ later called themselves as Taliban) had finally withdrawn from Afghanistan after 10 years. But Indian Army does not seem to tire not tamed nor afraid. The great US army finally was withdrawn from Vietnam unable to fight any more even after burning whole villages and forests using naphthalene bombs. All atrocities were committed on Vietnam which were not just human rights issues by wayward frustrated soldiers but the war crimes themselves were terrible and ghastly. But after all this said and done they had to withdraw from Vietnam only because they could not fight anymore. No modern equipment could match the morale of Vietnamese army. If you read world war carefully you find what magic the ’’morale’’ could do to a fighting army. German army fought five times its army on any given sector but particularly in the desert battlefields of Egypt where General Erwin Romel was the commander of the army. It is the morale that counts, it is the man behind the machine that counts and not just the machine itself. Indian Army’s morale is very high today. It has many victories and a great history to its credit. It has wonderful officers whose morale is very high. Some of the critics mostly my Muslim friends and my communist friends criticize by saying that Indian Army is good at Pakistan only and when they were asked to fight Chinese they drop dead with cold fear and so on and some nonsense talk. In this regard I want to say that India’s China war as it was termed was a wrong terminology. It is a wrong description of an historic event. India’s border dispute or small battles with China shall not be viewed as a full scale war. In a war air force participates. In a war tanks, artillery (the god of war) heavy and small participates. In India-China border dispute there was no such thing. Only small arms like rifle and small machine guns were used in all the five sectors where an intense firing was opened. In all the four sectors Indian Army stood its ground and not moved an inch. China heavily lost in men and logistics. There was a heavy casualty on Chinese side on all four of these sectors. Their ( Chinese ) biggest failure was to capture the laddak air filed or air port. Chinese army died in thousands and yet they failed to capture !!. In one sector (present Assam area) the Indian Army was ordered to withdraw after heavy casualty and it was done by an Army General who had never participated in any war before but was the head of a drama troop for the army during second world war !!. Prime Minister Nehru declared that we would take back our land and to that effect he announced it on the radio. Finally and hastily general Manek Shaw was appointed and he called the officers on this sector for a meeting. All the officers eagerly awaited the meeting somewhere near Assam border. General Manek Shaw walked in and spoke only one sentence. ’’Gentlemen there shall be no more withdrawals’’ and he walked out. Thus the army stood the ground on that sector as well. China’s communist dictator hastily announced a cease fire and unilaterally stopped the firing. Why? It was because of logistics. In those days on the available technology to the whole of the world , China could not carry it heavy artillery to the plains bordering Himalayas. It had to use trucks or Lorries and it could not transport more than 50 trucks a day. This was at least the calculation of general Manek Shaw (it was proved to be correct and he was a genius ) and he was ready with heavy artillery positioned on the plains to rout the Chinese army. The most fearful and dangerous ’’history’’ was awaiting the Chinese. Anyway China’s Mao was losing his grip on communist politburo and was becoming unpopular among Chinese population. He lately came out of long depression and ill health and wanted to pull out a rowdy sheerer type of magic on innocent India by raking up an issue and giving a mortal blow by taking on Indian Army by surprise. China’s Mao did not want to make any mistake at this point. The important point however was that sooner or later Indians would give a deadly blow to the Chinas’ weakest point. India did not use its Air Force and would sooner or later use it escalating a border squeamish in to a full scale war. China did not have proper runways, while India had plenty of them even nearest the Himalayas laid by British during World War II. India had a superior air craft and well trained pilots. So Mao called off his magic to gain popularity at the right point of time and regained a grip on communist central committee. That was India’s so called China war. In Sri Lanka within no time Indian Army took over entire tiger controlled areas and confined Prabhakaran to vovuniya jungles expecting a nod from Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi to comb it and capture Prabhakaran. Rajeev was inexperienced and also there was pressure from Lanka government. The army was withdrawn after tigers openly surrendered before television cameras “all” their fire arms. There was a temporary government (regional one within the constitution of Sri Lanka) established and Indian Army withdrawn. In Punjab they did a wonderful job and proved to the whole world that India can stub out terrorism. It can eradicate terrorism. If there is any army in the world which can fight with a terrorism sponsored by a neighbor country and that country supported in turn by world powers, it is the only Indian Army which can teach a very good lesson, a bitter lesson to such powers. The Frankenstein monster would engulf those countries also because terrorism knows no borders and it has no religion. The history proves it while India keeps its heart in the hand of the Indian Army which can protect it. Indian army has to be further strenghned irrespective of the cost involved. We were given a horrible enemy as our neighbor by God with whom we fought thrice. We need to have highly mechanized army whose mobility should be rapid. We need a complete helicopter division of army which can move from one side to another on borders of our subcontinent. It is because we have enemies on out left and right and above !! What a neighbors we have. Two of them are not even democratic governments and other is infested by fanatics ! We may have a rudimentary helicopter Army wing and a mechanized wing but in my opinion that is not enough. We are need to modernize our army at a rapid pace. Jai Hind.
