I have visited Indian institute of horticulture twice, as industrial visit, once in my b.sc and once in m.sc.
Being a lifescience student, I lived their labs and the work they are doing.
Since we had been from the college we got to see the work they are doing and all the lands over there including their fields.
It is just wonderful! They first explain about the institute with a PowerPoint presentation and then, there is a guide who accompanies you to the labs.
They have lots of sophisticated instruments required to carry out research in the field. The people here are friendly and dedicated to their work.
I loved the seed storage centre, where they store seeds in a very low temperature and since seeds are stored in liquid nitrogen as well to keep them viable up to a hundred years.
Working environment is good and they offer internships for postgraduates in the related field as well as research associate position. If you are lucky enough to get in, you would be using all high throughput instruments and have a great time.
They have beautiful collection of fungi and they also grow mushrooms for commercial and research purposes.
The green houses are well equipped and maintained well. You can find various fruit trees if you get a chance to see their fields. Actually you can see their fields even before you get into IIHR on the way.
They have a shop outside the institute where they sell the fruits and vegetables they have grown for a reasonable price.
There are no restaurants nearby except their canteen which serves food only for people who work there, but if you know someone there, you can get a good coupon.
There are a few bmtc buses which directly stops in front of the institute, from majestic and market bus stop. I think it is 252f or something, confirm before getting in.
I recommend you visit the place of you get a chance.
