A DAUGHTER OF INDIA AMONG THE STARS

I know that this review is under the wrong topic. There is no topic to put it under and before I left I wanted to offer my condolences to the People in India who knew the Astronaut who was born in India. Before her Mission she said, ’’When I was a young girl living in India I always new I wanted to be an Astronaut.’’ Please for give me, (once) for putting this review under this topic.

Ms. Chawla was a ’’daughter of India’’ and her Family and Friends who still live in India are now gathering together to mourn her.One School Friend just said, ’’When she was 14 she told me she wanted to reach for the stars.I guess it was meant to be that she died among them.’’

The INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANIZATION:

The ISRO is now part of the World of Space. It has become part of over 100 Countries that are doing Space Research.

NASA, (the Headquarters are in Washington D.C.), is the Centre that co-ordinates it all.I have never been to India or the Research Centre there.I would imagine that they do they same type of work as the KENNEDY, (NASA), Space Science Centre is in Orlando, Florida in the United States of America. This is where the United States Space Flights are launched. There is also a Museum here.

THE HISTORY ABOUT SPACE:

’’Some People believe the ’Space Race’ began during the time when the Nazi’s developed the V2, (Vengeance Weapon 2), during WW II. Both the USSR and the USA found some of the Technology and the ’Race’ really began.

In 1947 the Soviets sent their R-5 Rocket into Space. The USSR continue to develop their Rockets and the Sputnik Missel and this was the first man-made rocket that entered outer Space, (that was sent from Earth).

The United States launched it’s first ICBM, (Ballistic Missile), Rocket into Space in 1957. They picked the date of the ’lift-off’ to coincide with the Wright Brothers’ first Aeroplane Flight, (it was the 54 Anniversary of the flight).

In 1961 the USSR sent their a Volstok Spacecraft with Cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin on board. He was the first Man in space.

Three weeks later NASA sent Alan Shepard into Space, (but he didn’t circle the Globe). In 1926 John Glenn, (now a Senator), became the first Citizen of the USA to circle the Earth.

In 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin flew an Apollo II Spacecraft to the Moon. The landed on the Moon in a Lunar Modual. I still can see the United States Flag being planted into the dust of the Moon and hear the words, ’’One small step for Man and one giant leap for mankind’.

Today Countries from around the World are allowed to send their Astronauts on a Space Mission. There is also a Space Station in place in Space.’’

In January 2003 the first Woman born in India goes on a Space Mission.

You don’t have to travel to Orlando or have a Space Science link to the NASA Program. You can connect to them if you have a Real Player #8 Version and going to:

I hope if there is a project like the Kennedy Space Science one in India you will go and see it. If there isn’t I am asking the Minister of ISRO why not?

WHY AM I WRITING THIS:

Twenty years ago, (this week), I was sitting in the Bar at the Sheraton Hotel in Israel. We were waiting for the Bus to take us to the Airport. They had a large screen TV turned on and I watched in horror as the Challenger Space Craft blew up.

Today as I am waiting for the Taxi to take us to the Airport I turned on CNN and heard of the tragic events that happened today. The Columbia Space Shuttle blew up over Texas on it’s final approach. There were 6 American, (one Lady was born in India) and 1 Israeli Astronauts who died today.

To the Family and Friends and to the ISRO I offer my condolences on the loss of your Indian Astronaut.

May they rest in Peace.

See you all in 8 days.
