Just another software company

Infosys, considered to be India’s best and biggest is really actually only the work of this company’s suuuuuperb PR strategies. Now a little googling would tell u that this company believes ina lot of CORE values that it claims to stand by. For example, Customer delight, Integrity, Fairness, Leadership, Excellence.

To discuss each one:

Customer Delight: Have worked on 3 different projects since working for Infosys. In each one the company inflated the number of resources needed by atleast 4 in some cases as much as six for excess billing. No wonder it loses so many projects to Tech M etc.

The only deal is to keep milking the customers. Yes, Infosys does provide good service but having worked there I can say surely that it is no better or worse that any other company.

Integrity and Fairness: It all boils down to your managers and it is a vast pool of human resources with too many bad egg managers. Really incompetent very many of them, but they make employees scapegoats for their own incompetency time and again. No real point discussing these two core values since I havent seen them being implemented..only talked about though. Nothing in place to even see or make sure that these values are followed. Be it appraisals or ratings or losing projects..its always the employees fault and management is NOT answerable at all. However, u are one of ur manager’s fave..boy u have no worries. The point is that kind of culture infy propagates.

Excellence: I would agree on this point somewhat since Infy has a good workforce at lower levels. knowledgeable and hard working. But that’s part credit of the workforce also and fact is every company has such employees.

Decades of fleecing clients (Not that its any of my probs), the company had made enough money to spend on oits wonderful looking buildings and huge campuses. But its compensation and leave policies are nowhere near to even standard. Even after 3 years it pays maximum 30k.

Its actually a trade secret how being no diff from any other vendor they even manage to win deals since far as I know their billing rates are on higher side compared to other vendors. Surely its their PR.

HOW do I know???

Well for starters do you know that EVERY year there are atleast 15 or more suicides in Mysore Campus alone between the new joinees who are on training. In my 2.5 months stay alone there were 3. So many suicides inside one campus going on or years and do u even know about it? huh???

It could’ve been breaking news on any news channel. 15 or more per year? We were forbidden to speak about it even inside the campus. And even after days when I heard nothing of it in any newspaper/TV I had made the realization that this company spends a bomb on PR.

Whoever said its the fault of the company????

POINT is that it never comes in the open..THAT’s amazing PR since number of suicides is way high.

If Infy really believes in all social initiatives it makes itself famous for, it would’ve taken some measures to stop those. Something as simple as taking rigorous technical interviews at time of interviews itself instead of recruiting in herds and chucking out later. This is done by ALL other IT companies and none commits suicide there for a reason as simple as failing some tests and getting thrown out because of that.

And people leave offers from good companies to join Infy only to be chucked out later. And reason they choose Infy, is for their PR which projects it as a dream company. vicious circle really. As a fresher its hard to get a job if not through campus interviews. After getting chucked out where can they go next. Its better infy hadn’t recruited them by taking rigorous interviews at first stage itself.

And what is all this about hiding the suicides?

It is not the company’s fault that these guys are committing suicides. It is the company’s fault that they are hiding the cases and not changing their policies to avoid them. Lives are more important than saying that it was the student’s fault. A corporate giant like that cant just brush their shoulders off all responsibility, pay the parents and get confidentiality agreements signed. huh.

Read just one of them:

Some parts of the article:

’’Though Infosys is learnt to have offered a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased, the company officials not only refused to speak to the media but also discouraged the family from meeting members of the media and general public. It was as if they wanted the thing to be over and done with. There was no official statement from the company either. At Bangalore, the Infosys refused to comment on the incident.’’

So that is where all the reputation of Infosys comes in. Because I see really nothing special in this company that its made out to be. Its just another IT company.
