Ok.Before the MS censor board starts judging me for the reviews on books I read, I have my own explainations for reading the all-raunchy Harold Robbins. First, IIts my first of a kind HR book & I really didnt know itd have been a novel like this. Second, my book had no covercause I got it for just 20 bucks from the station. Third, Im goin back to that station to look for more books. ha! Just kiddin!
Nothing new in this book that the usual readers wouldnt know about. So instead about the story and plot Il try to put down what I found worth putting down(smart .i know)
BOND. James Bond. yep! Thats the word. I see the guys watchin. And I see the girls drooling over too. But the protagonist Steven Gaunt is the eternal bond. He doesnt need the gadgets, the cars, the agent Ms, the adventure, the voice or the body.phew. He just has to be in a Harrold Robbins novel and he gets all the women he wants. All the money he needs. All the demand and all the SUCCESS. what else can one ask for?. Steve had NO qualifications, No ework-experience, NO NOTHING. All he had to do was walk in to the Presidents offfice and become the Vice-President of Sinclair Broadcasting Centre.(our STAR or ZEE equivalent).Steve was all about vision and timing at its most indealistic phase.
He needs to justify to no-one about his actions. He can spend as much money he wants just because he knows he is star of HRs(the new HR.) novel and can get away with it with unprecedented results taking his company from rank 4 to rank 1 in a month of his entry. How is does it is pretty interesting though. Pride and attitude reflected in his words are rooted deeper into his heart especially after his marriage-ends( to Barbara who is the daughter of none other than our President Mr Sinclair). He can hire and fire at will. Its fun to see him do that too.
For guys who are having a hardtime memorising names of girls .read on.Actually read this book. Steven, our womaniser gets all the women he wants with the simple trick. He cant remember their names. So we have a string ofsomething-something Girl.To name a fewBlonde-girl, Lawyer-girl, Chinese-girl, Darling-Girl, Doctor-Girl and more. the list goes on and on. All he has to do is cal her by thesomething-something Girl name. and wah! He has her. Interesting!
The book revolves around the media world from advertising(on between shows) to TV viewership to ratings to mergers-acquisitions of companies. The plus points of the book should be the ambition and drive(which I mocked at before, but at times could be inspiring for all u want-2-crack-CAT-and-be-A-MANAGER-someday-people). Decision making at times less than a snap can make you wonder if hes really thinking. His thoughts about loneliness and the void in life inspite of havingmoolah makes you rate the self higher than thepenny. The rest is just name-sake.
