Multiplex concept is catching on in India which is Good if its done in the right way. The first thing that comes to your mind when going to a multiplex is a big spacious, mall, stores galore, entertainment like the malls we see in tv ads for dubai and singapore.
The multiplex on Maratahalli ring road is no where near to concept of what a Multiplex should offer to the customers.This looks like a spurced up version of 3-4 theaters in a group .. the same what we have on Kempegowda road even now. People are just building a few theaters together and call it a multiplex ( just the name) and a little bit of popcorn and ice and soda units thrown in between.
Also there is no ample parking space available and on weekends and holidays one can see car owners jostling for space and all the cars gets spilled over to the outer ring road and the adjacent roads for parking space and cause lots of problems. The theater itself is no better than some of the others in the city Eg.. Vaibhav in Sanjaynagar a new one is pretty good with excellent sound and seating arrangements and its very clean.
Also if one looks at the expences to be bourne by individual say for example if 4-5 people from a family go to multiplex the avg. expenditure would literally run into 600/- and if the family on an avg goes to multiplex twice a month the avg. spending will be around 1500 /-. With 4-5 months spending one can buy a good dvd and superb sound system to go with and enjoy more. Its ok to go to multiplex if the movie is a must see in theaters ( like Lagaan or Matrix kind of movies) and again if you have a better choice of theaters around that takes precedence over this multiplex.
For a average salaried person I don’t think going to multiplex will be a good experience. There is also one more multiplex coming up adjacent to Wockhard hospital - Cunningham Road ( how far its true remains to be seen ). The place itself is so crowded and no place to walk on cunningham road makes one wonder how a multiplex can come up in such a place (even if there are no theaters but only shopping and other centers). Builders are just constructing things and naming it multiplex and charge above average price for everyting in that and make good money thats all....
Istead of wasting money in multiplex one can enjoy a quite and pleasant evening at MALGUDI which is quite nearby by having good dinner and have a pleasant drive on the ring road and back to one’s cozy nest.
