Amazing movie friends

Inside Out is the Best Picture of the Year thus far and looking ahead I’d be surprised if anything else surpassed it in that respect.  In fact, I don’t even have to see the other potentials because this film is perhaps the most original we’ve seen in I don’t know how long.  Decades.  Originality isn’t a sole factor of a Best Picture, no, but Pixar has managed to surround a narrative around the complexity of human emotions, both young and old. And it has also managed to offer some of the best animation we’ve seen. ever.  And it has given us some amazing new characters.  And it made us laugh.  And it made us cry.  Best Picture by far no matter what comes out.

The film has created an imaginative world that we haven’t seen the likes of since other standouts in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Tron, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan(Neverland), and even the underrated world in What Dreams May Come.

I won’t speak of the plot, stories, or characters beyond that.  I don’t need to. They’re perfect.  The world Pixar has created is perfect.  You will walk out of that theater thinking differently about your life and the life of your parents and children, if even for a moment.

I was able to see much of the concept designs for Inside Out in their gallery area upstairs.  To see the evolution from concept to end result was amazing.

This film is a revelation.  Pixar has been on the animation and storytelling forefront since Toy Story debuted in 1995. 20 years ago!  And I don’t understand why the major studios haven’t taken to heart and to mind what it is they do and how they do it.  We can talk about corporations, stocks, and money until our mouths are dry, but the proof is in the pudding.
