Dark yet enlightening

Being a big fan of vampire books I was completely enthralled by Interview With The Vampire written by well-known author Anne Rice.

Interview With The Vampire is the first book in Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles and was written out of Anne’s desire to know what if someone were to have the chance to interview a vampire and what would a vampire say? Anne Rice wrote this book whilst grieving the loss of her five year old daughter and she was able to use the tragic story of the vampire Louis to put across her own pain and feelings and because of this the story was more believable as the grief was more realistic.

The story starts off with a young reporter interviewing what he sceptically believes is a 200-year-old vampire named Louis; this scepticism soon fades as Louis starts telling his tragic yet fascinating story complete with exhibits of his vampiric powers. Louis tells of his death as a young man at his plantation in New Orleans during the Civil War era by a vampire named Lestat. The story continues as Louis explains how he became immortal and in time how he became to despise his life and Lestat’s. This despise subsides slightly when he and Lestat create a vampire child named Claudia

As I don’t want to give away all the details about Louis, Lestat and the vampire child Claudia I strongly suggest you read this book yourself. I would recommend Interview With The Vampire and all of the Vampire Chronicles to people who enjoy a book that not only has a great plot, has characters that you either fall in love with or despise but also enables you to feel like you are apart of the story.
