Irresistible and spellbinding

While taking a class on literary journalism a few years ago, I was asked to read this book. I sat down one afternoon at 4pm, and didn’t stop until the book was finished. As cliche as it might sound, I couldn’t put this book down.

As the previous reviewer put it perfectly, this story revolves around a young man with everything in the world one could want, giving it all away and walking out into the wilderness of Alaska, where he is found dead a few months later in an abandoned bus. Jon Krakauer doesn’t surprise us with this fact, as it is clearly stated on the cover. Instead, we are pulled in to learn why... and I found myself fascinated with how this authored uncovered this incredible story.

Through investigative interviews with people who touched Chris’ life along the journey across the United States, Krakauer uncovers this story with breathtaking detail. MOst haunting to me however were the artifacts discovered in the bus itself... which, you should really read this book to learn about! Lets just say that this book left me asking so many questions, and with a feeling that I didn’t fully understand what made this journey happen, but spellbound none the less.

I would highly recommend this book.
