Yes the movie rises above expectations (mine…at least)
Let me not bore you guys with the story line, which is simple, straight and predictable or with the pros and cons of the movie….well there is hardly any flaw in the film.
Let me share ….what makes this film so special……..
First things first…The USP of the film is its tone….which is simple, straight and subtle. I am sure given such a storyline any director would have played it to the gallery….pumping heavy doses of melodrama. But thanks heavens…..here subtlety and honesty is the mantra and believe me it touches you at the core.
This is one film that doesn’t let you sympathize with a challenged fellow… It makes you an integral part of his struggle, ups and downs…..end result….you come out of theatre smiling …..with that classic climax shot lingering in your mind......
Characterizations…each one of them stand out on their own right. A doting sister… egoistic father and above all the mother….yes the mother……she is the mother of today….irrespective of her class….education…..she’s got a mind of her own……she believes in her children…their dreams and is ready to stand against all odds….. besides.... watches cricket with equal zeal.
Naseeruddin shah is one actor (like big B) who’s got this knack of convincing with any bit of role he gets.
About Shreyas…seems like the guy has actually lived the role…..Iqbals determination, honesty is so clear in his eyes….his body language and expressions speak volumes about Iqbal..... he doesnt need any words for that.
This movie once again goes ahead to reiterate the fact that theres nothing like art or commercial cinema...... its just good cinema ..…and yes this genre works and is here to stay...... its been proven by Page3, Sarkar & Black..... I hope the same with IQBAL too.....
.....Coz IQBAL is one of the best portrayals of human spirit on celluloide in recent times….. in its own subtle way, it makes you chuckle at times ….gives you goosebumps …..Yes I am inspired by the movie…..it reminds me of a closing line from one of my favorite novels……
“If you want something badly……the entire world will conspire to help you have it”.
I can only thank Nikhat Qazmi for her honest appreciation of the movie….It made me get up and catch a show….So if you guys still wondering what to do……go book a ticket for this weekend….I am sure you’ll thank me for this one.
