Drooling over Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na - The flick and feast
A flick dripping with sessions of hope and embrace; of trying to search for a reclusive individual when none exists whatsoever.
The strengths of the movie emanate from the fact that the chemistry that is there between two individuals is hard to ignore main protagonists, Rats(Jai) and Meow(Aditi), are enmeshed in a world far away from the madding crowd. They hold and behold for a duration that doesn’t carry on for long as whenever they set out the group frenzy is the mantra. Pitching a tent here or taking a walk there, it is never a solo venture; the bunch hangs out in unison. Despite all the newer elements and hummable musical score, the movie appears to lose its momentum on occasions, the overwhelming one being when Jay has a date with prison. Besides the ride to the airport is also a bit of a drag or the two Khan brothers taking horses to the party.
Of the movie plot the way Jai dodges different authorities in the airport to reach out to his fiancé is reminiscent of Bobby Deol chasing A Rai in a flick of the 90s.
The horse (or the one riding it) is supposed to make an appearance as the situation warrants (the director would have us believe) but what on earth brings this entity when Jai and Meghna have been past their argumentative best.
Shah’s knack of making an appearance as the situation warrants may also appear to be going overboard, but he has essayed such roles (in the past as well) where he does not appear in flesh.
When Jai shows his inability to carry on with his life where a cell would be mandatory (the plea being it would be an intrusion into his privacy), it reminds me of the days when in real life Aamir Khan didn’t carry a cell till the period he could manage it.
A good number of scenes have been built against the backdrop of Bandra- Worli Sealink (still in its construction stage). The other prominent time when one can recall this construction marvel is when AB went out to shoot for a print media campaign on Choosing a leader.
All said and done, the theme of emotional connect would continue to draw the interest of the public and Jane tu has strengths that surely cover up for its shortfalls.
P.S.
Amidst signs of a deteriorating public discourse, it was more appropriate to watch a flick peppered with a theme close to your heart than watch proceedings in the House that disrobe you of sanity.
