Changing Cinema

As the title suggests, Jaaneman, I consider is a personification of changing hindi cinema, and a change for good.On the contrary to the belief that the movie is "old wine in new bottle", this one can be termed, "new wine in new bottle"

The plot definitely is nothing new, but the presentation is what makes the movie unique.

JAAN-E-MANN begins with Suhan [Salman Khan] receiving a notice to pay the alimony. He has to shell out Rs. 50 lacs to his estranged wife Piya [Preity Zinta], now settled in the U.S. Suhan’s ’Chachu’ Boney [Anupam Kher], a lawyer, thinks of ways to wriggle out of the situation.

It’s at this juncture that Champu aka Agastya [Akshay Kumar] walks in, looking for Piya. He was in love with her during the college days, he tells Suhan and Chachu, but she was in love with someone else [Agastya is unaware that Suhan is the guy]. Piya had ignored Agastya then, a nerd, and even broke his heart by courting another guy. A heartbroken Agastya had left the college for this reason.

Back to the present: Agastya is now at NASA. His outwardly appearance may’ve undergone a change, but he still doesn’t know how to communicate with a girl, forget dating her. Suhan and Chachu hatch the plan to get Agastya and Piya together, so that Suhan is out of the mess.

Agastya flies to New York, so does Suhan. They hire an apartment right opposite Piya’s residence and monitor each and every move of her through binoculars and telescope. Suhan helps Agastya to woo Piya. A reluctant Piya eventually gives in. But the story changes when Suhan gets to know of a certain reality and that changes his life completely. He feels responsible towards Piya.

Suhan realizes his folly and wants to make amends. But oblivious to Suhan’s presence, Piya is now preparing for a life with Agastya.

Now to the Positives of the Film:

1) Amazing Screenplay: Every scene in the movie is penned and presented with flawless execution and would in future make this a trademark for Sirish Kunder’s films. This man is real talent.

2)Performances: The highlight of the movie is for sure the amazing chemistry between the two lead actors and both have lived upto the expectations of their fans and critics alike.

Salman looks great as he was in Tere naam and has delivered one of his best performances ever.He does justice to the versatility provided to him in the plot.

Akshay has yet again come up with a never to forget performance. He, infact takes the movie to a new high and proves that he is indeed someone that the khan’s need to watch out. This actor is trying different roles every year and is experiencing success too.If he gave Garam Masala last year, he also gave us "Waqt", while this year, his compliment to "Phir Hera Pheri"happens to be "Jaaneman".Awesome!!!

Anupam Kher has a pivotal role as salmans uncle and is remarkable too.

3)Music:Songs take the movie forward and soothe your ears.Someone who is always criticizedm three cheers to Anu Malik who every now and then does mange to spring surprises like Refugee and Jaane man

4)Balance of Emotion and Fun:This romantic tour takes us through a range of emotions and tickles our bones here and there, without going overbored.

Certain scenes will remain with the viewer for a long time. To mention some of them:

a)The finger shake

b)Akshay’s and Slamans breakdown scenes

c)The picturization of the song "Humko Maloom Hain"

d)Every scene that has both the lead actors delivering

Now, to some of the negatives:

1)Preity Zinta:Preity looks disinterested from the first scene and certainly does not connect to her character, piya. She’s started looking old and has put her status into jeopardy as she now seems to look comfortable only with the "yash" banner. She is unconvincing in the emotional scenes too.

2)Although, the songs have been shot well, considering the length of the movie, we could have got rid of any one of the songs.Maybe, Sirish could have been a touch beeter with his editing skills.

Overall, a movie that will certainly be liked by everyone.Jaane man has everything that a family audience would love to watch and is definitely worth the money.
